Hello there ladies of Hive and to my readers here! I go for option no. 2 and that is how we celebrate for a job well done. Having raised 5 kids is not a joke but I am happy to be their mother.:) Now that they're all grown up, granny me has to do some tasks for them since they have their own works to do for their family. Hiring loyal nannies before are easier compared today because They're more "modernized" with the existence of these trendy mobiles that they tend to go overboard to the extent of neglecting their duty as what they're being paid for. I opted to take a close watch on them though we have a nanny who comes everyday and goes home every afternoon since she's a single mom with 3 girls. Antonia grew up with a nanny but we never spoiled her though others say I did. Lol! Anyways, she's a good girl so is my elder grandson whose dad passed away at the age of 32 when he was still a little kid. His mom is a head teacher making her busy all the time. I tried to fill the gap on their behalf and see to it that he won't miss the special events like closing programs when awards are also given to the deserving students. Antonia and her elder cousin 3rd, (Jesser lll) are some of the recipients and proud Lola never missed these events.
They expect me to go up the stage to put on the medals on their necks! Luckily, they never missed it every year! They study in different schools though we celebrate their achievements for A-Job-Well-Done in one setting. We often go to our favourite restaurant. I see to it that each receive something from me in form of money or in kind. Since 3rdy is with her mom. I give him money sometimes so he can buy what he wants and I like him to celebrate it with her mom too.
Giving gifts for their achievements is to give them more encouragement and inspiration to do better especially in their academics. Likewise, I also encourage the two to be active in their extra curricular activities because it will be a plus points to build up their personality.
I got Antonia from her other Lola when I stopped writing online as a team leader of online writers. It was a straining job when you do the proofreading and find them plagiarizing! That was a tough job when you do the editing for them. In short, I gave up my online job and back to reality once again! Antonia was already in her primary school when I stopped since her mom was already working. Her mom asked me to take care of her daughter because we observed that they're spoiling the child being the only kid around them. Her mom feared that she will grow to be a spoiled child with a stubborn character. She gets what she wants whatever she liked and they would hastily give her esp she she gets a tantrum! That's where I stopped with my job and focused on her while she's still on the developing stage. Of course, she's still allowed to spend time with them especially on holidays and come back home when schooling is open again.
Fortunately, she always get on the honours list. Here, are some of the events:
• During their VCS (vacation Church School), she made a colourful art with a caption from the bible : "Be Strong For God Is With You - Joshua 1:4" and she could already memorize the first 10 books of the Old Testament. I said wow! very good! I will surely make a new dress for Lalaloopsy. She was overwhelmed. Her mom bought her a set of pencils too! Celebrating for a job-well-done in many ways and not only eating to celebrate, right? Giving gifts is more lasting and memorable.:)
• One day, she went home crying. I asked why the heavy face? She said that they're required to write their 'talambuhay' (diary) in Tagalog (Filipino language) and she doesn't know how since we're speaking the Visayan/Cebuano dialect. I calmed her down and said to just write down her daily activities and I'll do the checking before passing it in school but she stopped and cried again every time she asked what's the terms used and cried again. She's good in her diary in English but doing her 'talambuhay' was a burden on her part. Then I gave her a good idea: That she do her work and I'll make beautiful dresses for her doll! She readily agreed and did her task, asking me every now and then for the Tagalog terms but no more tears! She asked me to sew a uniform for her doll so they can both go to school together. As you can see on the above photo, indeed, they both went to school together!
• For a job-well-done, I promised to sew her an outfit of her favourite Moana character and she got it. That's when her teachers in every level were optimistic on what costume she would wear on her next birthday since she seems to get an award every time there's an awarding.
• We never forced her to be the number 1 in class. All she needs to do is pass the exam and get good grades is enough for us. Little girls need to play and enjoy their childhood. On this occasion, her mom went home and gave her a surprise. She was so happy seeing her mom!
• Lola had a little fan for her laptop and Lola bought her one for herself too.:)
• She likes to see me sew beautiful dresses and cute bags. She asked me if she could let me use my sewing machine shen she grows up. I said of course, but you need to practice first because it's an electric sewing machine and it runs so fast that could prick your fingers. Her aunt ordered a small electric sewing online and it arrived right on her birthday! Eager as she was, she immediately learned how to manage. The slow speed was enough for a kid to follow. Seeing me working with my laptop and my sewing machine beside, she also arranged her sewing machine along with her school bag. Lol!
• She already knew how to make a little pouch by hand and it was easy for her to one for herself. She asked for the extra cloth I made for their costume. She gladly showed me her first pouch and she even made a bigger one for her backpack!
• This time, her mom bought her a cute mat to sit on the floor while she do her things or bring it outside in our garden to have some snacks. I bought her a whiteboard as well. Little things meant a lot to a child.
• When she got older, her mom promised for them to have a summer trip to Palawan. It was her dream-come-true!
• There's a portion on FB that shows memoirs of "Then and Now". I showed her latest photo during their awarding program. She got 96% general average with High Honours Award. We celebrated at the Ayala Mall where my son-in-law is working. She got two medals the previous year and now she got two golds as champion in table tennis and the most pointers in soccer and the last but not the least, a silver medal in her academics.
• My grandson had his collection of medals at home too. He's a versatile student with honours in class, he plays soccer and basketball, and a drummer. His currently busy with his dancing and beatboxing. He won several awards in various event. He recently won as champion in Beatbox Competition last week. I gave him a flute as accompaniment with his beatbox for blending. I know that his dad is happy watching over him as he's growing up to be a fine youngan. He's now in Grade 12 and planned to take Education course, major in MAPEH which is in line with his talent.
What more can I say but be thankful for all their achievements! Am happy for them and proud to have such wonderful and intelligent grandkids!
