Our parish is raising funds for our new Catholic church. There have been lots of various activities and social events over the past two years, all of which have financially supported the building fund. But there is more to be done.
One such social event is an Afternoon Tea. And we had one just this weekend! The last time our parish had one was four years ago.

Full Tea: Savory Foods + Scones + Sweets + Tea
Also known as afternoon tea or low tea, full tea adds savory finger foods to the scones, sweets, and tea served at light tea. It is one of the most common types of afternoon tea service at hotels, restaurants, and bakeries. 1
I was tasked with helping put together the Afternoon Tea. In particular, I am to host 8 or 9 ladies who would come for tea.
That would mean providing the tableware for 9 settings.
Hauling my stuff from home to the parish center (and back) can be difficult because the tableware requirements of Afternoon Tea for 9 settings can be extensive, LOL.
Table runner, charger plates, dessert plates, tea up, saucers, small tulip stemware, demitasse teaspoons, small knives, dessert forks, teapots, sugar containers, sugar tongs, 3 tier plates, vases, roses...
As scheduled, I set up my assigned table the afternoon before the actual date of the event. It meant leaving my office early enough that day.
I was assigned the first table in front of the room. It took me two hours to unpack the tableware arrangements and then set the tea table just right.
And then the next day came...
As an English tradition, several etiquette rules may feel foreign to some. These include:
- asking for “some tea” and not “a tea,”
- stirring your tea gently up and down rather than in a circular motion, and
- enjoying the three-tiered assortment of treats from the bottom up. 1
The menu includes the usual tea sandwiches, scones, fresh fruits, and dessert. We had an ample teabag sachet assortment of hand-blended, custom-crafted, fine organic teas and botanicals with good, steeping hot water all throughout the event.
I treated everyone at our table to mimosas. The ladies just love the mimosas!
There was lots of conversation going on, and laughter, especially during the raffle.
It was a crowd! There were nineteen tables; all seats were taken. 152 people came for tea.
The ladies enjoyed themselves and had fun!
The clean up was less fun. Thank goodness for dishwashers!
I received a "Thank You" note, the day after.
Ahh... so gracious of them. I would do it for the parish at any time.
P.S.
