En mi caso opto por el primer planteamiento y comienzo por decir que la eutanasia es un tema muy controversial y la opinión de cada quien dependerá de su sistema de creencias, de acuerdo con su formación cultural y/o religiosa.

En una oportunidad, muchos años atrás, viví la gran experiencia de pasar unos días en una zona indígena venezolana, habitada por las etnias Hoti y Panare, tribus que para ese momento aún vivían en estado primitivo y estaban localizados en la serranía de Maigualida, al occidente del estado Bolívar de Venezuela. En ese lugar, me llamó mucho la atención que toda la población estaba conformada por jóvenes y niños, es decir, allí no vi ni a un solo adulto mayor. Cuando expresé mi curiosidad con relación a esta inquietud, me enteré de que eso era así, porque según sus costumbres, ellos vivían mientras estuvieran en condiciones físicas para cumplir con las tareas inherentes a la comunidad, como por ejemplo la cacería, la siembra o la recolección de cosechas. Cuando ellos sentían que ya no podrían cumplir con sus obligaciones, se acostaban y no volvían a comer ni a tomar agua y así se dejaban morir. A mí esto me impresionó mucho, pero a la vez que comprendí que esa era la realidad que les tocaba vivir. Esto vendría a ser como una especie de eutanasia voluntaria, sin ni siquiera estar enfermos, solo bastaba con sentir que el cuerpo ya no estaba apto para el trabajo y asumían la muerte con la mayor naturalidad del mundo.

Por mi parte, considero que la eutanasia dignifica a la persona en su decisión de cómo irse, tratándose de un enfermo terminal, cuyo destino irremediablemente será la muerte, aunado a que por lo general son horas de prolongado sufrimiento, que en la mayoría de los casos van acompañados de la utilización de incomodas y dolorosas prácticas médicas, en un infructuoso intento de prolongar la vida del paciente, si es qué a esos momentos se les puede llamar vida.

Por otra parte, considero que nuestro llamado sistema civilizado de vida, también contribuye en gran medida a que muchas personas sean consumidas por graves enfermedades, hasta alcanzar grados extremos de deterioro, al punto en que a la persona no le queda otra opción que someterse a una agonía dolorosa o decidir que le apliquen la eutanasia. Cuando el cuerpo humano de manera natural hubiera hecho su parte, sin necesidad de intervención de un médico para acelerar el fallecimiento. Aunque, también se da el caso de persona que apenas son diagnosticadas con alguna enfermedad terminal, deciden solicitar la aplicación de la eutanasia, sin probar ningún tratamiento.
