Hey people, hey ladies! 🥰
This is a sequel to my last post, I didn't make it 😥 I thought I could, I thought I would, but I couldn't, I didn't. I can't say I put in the extra effort, but I know I tried.
I said I'd give it an hour a day.
Referring to Hive as "it" feels weird though. I feel like she deserves to be called a she. LOL, I promise, has nothing to do with feminism or with the fact that I'm female.
Anyway, remember how I told you that the strike got called off?
You won't believe there's a looming threat to start another strike action because out of those 8-month salaries they were owed, they got paid a meagre 30% of only a month's pay 🤦🏾♀️. The agreements they said they'd had, the Federal Government is apparently throwing it out the window and all I feel like doing is giving about 3 people very hot slaps on their faces. Yes! I want to be violent with them since they have decided to pay deaf to the voice of reason. Okay, of course not, just kidding but I am indeed upset. It's not fair. The Accountant General of the Federation: 1, the Minister for Education: 2, and the President himself: 3. Urgh!
And to think that these men have very fat (raised to the power of 50 as in math) salaries and have been accused of siphoning millions in foreign currency, it's mind boggling really.
A couple of universities, if not more have already issued a stay-home-until-you-get-paid-in-full order and so students are just roaming around school premises hopeless and almost jobless with no lecturers attending classes. Man! I can't wait for the new elections to come and go. There's a candidate on the ballot who's a lover of education and has even proven his commitment to it (amongst other sectors) when he was a Governor. It was a results driven commitment I tell you, like the saying goes: talk and do. The neglect of the educational sector has really eaten deep with no remedy in sight in the last decades but now, there's hope.
Well, there's a silver lining, albeit very faint. The academic staff at my school is bent on getting the exams we've already started over with, strike action or not, and so at the least, we'll be done with the stale session and begin the new one. Mind you, this "new" one should've been at an end this month for me 😭. But, we move!
Everyone half expected the exams to be tough as we had no time to fully study and learn the entire coursework, it was rushed. So far, they've been linient with the instructions and questions. But that's only so far. The coming ones have mean and strict head instructors. ...might not be as easy. These days, we aren't even studying to learn, we're just studying to pass the exams. I for one am. Although, I try to spread my wings when something interesting catches my attention. Oh well, I guess we can always learn in practice.
You wouldn't believe I still haven't found a topic for my thesis. More like I haven't decided yet 😩. Help!
I miss it here, I miss you who make me laugh, learn, admire, discover and perplexed (😆). Managing time effectively isn't my strong suit, I'm used to focusing on one thing at a time unless I'm not being intentional about either of them. I hope to be back soon.
Wish me luck.
Oh the picture above? Yeah that's me in the middle. Duh! The two guys are friends of mine. Colleagues in the profession, of course in equity.
Yeah yeah, I promise, they're just friends 😂.
Cheers to the new week. ❤️
PS I'm not short 😒 they're just really tall.
Just in case you're new to my blog, the profession is Law, and there was a strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities here in Nigeria. It lasted 8 months and it started (on Valentine's day😄) because the FG wouldn't disburse funds for revitalising the institutions, nor pay the staff what they deserve. Yo, their salaries have remained the same since the early 2000's, pay no mind to the inflation and recessions and loss in value of the Naira over those many years. Phew! No wonder our people are migrating like there's no tomorrow.
Sad!
