The Joy of Every family is the Safe Delivery Of a baby they've been expecting for some months, but then after the Baby , what else?
Everyone is celebrating the baby, bringing gifts for the baby, the happiness is just encircled around the baby and Very Less of the Mother. It's only in some cultures like Mine that pay detailed attention to everything going on With the Mother.
The mother deserves some love, care, attention too by the spouse, family and loved Ones to battle the postpartum crisis.
Postpartum Crisis is real and a lot of mothers have gone down badly with this. Postpartum crisis could just be a series of physical, emotional, mental, psychological challenges faced by Women after Childbirth. These women Go down with series like anxiety, depression, and other physical complications like infections, Mental retardation, sleep disturbances.
These things happen because the Mother has been deprived of sleep, had a complicated birth which might result in Traumatic birth experience, lack of social support, abusive or negligent spouse, miscarriages and premature Birth.
Rectovaginal Fistula has been recorded to be one of the leading crises postpartum women face as it affects thousands of women round the globe. It includes enervating injuries which leaves severe physical, emotional, and social consequences laying strong impact on the New Mother's Life.
Women with RVF come down with Incontinence- uncontrollable leakage of stool, gas, urine through the vagina.
They might also experience chronic pains around their Pelvis and painful intercourse as well. Recurring infections and abscesses can lead to sepsis, fever and other complications which might be corrected through surgery.
With all these crises mentioned above these women suffer a couple of things like PTSD- post-traumatic stress Disorders, depression, loss of intimacy with their Spouse, social isolation to avoid embarrassment and emotional troll, stigma from the society, it could as well affect the mother and child relationship in terms of breastfeeding. RVF has a lot of devastating consequences which includes DEATH.
It is therefore pertinent that we support the nursing mother,engage them and give them all the care and love needed in order to end RVF and Other Postpartum related Crisis.
Spouse and family members are encouraged to look out for signs and symptoms like
- Fatigue
- Pains
- Mood swings
- Anxiety and depression
- Hemorrhage
- Infection
- Breastfeeding difficulties
- Hallucinations and other - psychological disorders.
I wrote this article because I came across a woman with RVF yesterday and she was taken to the operating room.
