Good morning and Merry Christmas, Hive!
Christmas morning always feels like a time to pause and take stock of where we’ve been and where we’re headed. Here in Minnesota, I had hoped for a snow-covered holiday—last week’s snowfall had us looking out at a landscape straight out of a greeting card. But as quickly as it came, it melted away, leaving us with a green and oddly warm Christmas, It’s a reminder that the world doesn’t always match our plans or expectations, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t beauty in what unfolds.
This past month, I’ve been writing about the stories we tell ourselves during this season. Rudolph, for instance, is such a uniquely American Christmas tale—a misfit whose value is only recognized when he becomes useful to those in power. It’s hard not to see parallels in how we navigate our culture and economy, where individuality is celebrated but often only when it serves a greater purpose. And then there’s the Elf on the Shelf, a modern invention that’s equal parts whimsy and surveillance. If you think about it too much (as I have), it starts to feel less like a holiday tradition and more like a quiet lesson in compliance.
But for all the contradictions and complexities of the season, there’s something undeniably special about Christmas. It’s a time when we pause to connect—with each other, with our traditions, and with the possibilities of what’s to come.
Looking forward to 2025, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I’m calling the year of the token. Writing here on Hive has made me more aware than ever of how digital tools can shape the way we interact, build, and grow communities. I’m excited to see how tokens—not just as currency but as representations of value and trust—will continue to evolve in ways that are meaningful and sustainable. Hive is such a fertile ground for experimentation, and I’m looking forward to diving deeper into that space in the coming year.
But for today, I’m keeping it simple. A little food, a little quiet, and some time to reflect on everything this year has brought—its challenges, its lessons, and its unexpected joys. The Hive community has been a big part of that for me, this last month of the year. Sharing my thoughts here, whether they’re about the weather, a story about a reindeer, or my plans for 2025, has been a grounding experience, and I’m grateful for the connections I’ve made along the way.
How are you spending your day? Are there traditions you’re celebrating or moments you’re cherishing? Whether you’re with family, friends, or simply enjoying some quiet time, I’d love to hear what this day means to you.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a peaceful holiday season. Thanks for being part of my journey—here’s to a year ahead full of possibilities!
Warmly,
Michael
