I’ve been on Hive for about a month now, and I’m still figuring out how to navigate everything. There’s so much potential here—a platform where creators and communities are rewarded for their work, and where decentralization ensures everyone has a voice. But as someone new, I’ve noticed something that might be worth exploring: it’s not immediately obvious how to “stick” as a new user.
Here’s what I mean. New users like me often start by scrolling, reading posts, and maybe voting. That’s the first step to getting familiar with a platform. But if voting doesn’t feel impactful—or if it’s hard to see the benefit of engaging beyond that—it might not feel worth the extra steps involved in using a Web3 platform. Things like setting up a wallet, understanding resource credits, or even learning what Hive Power does are hurdles. If the initial experience doesn’t hook someone, they might not take the next step: commenting, posting, or becoming part of the community.
Are We Losing People at the Start?
I wonder if there’s been any work done to understand the behavior of new users on Hive. Are there trends in how long they stick around before posting? What kinds of content or interactions seem to encourage them to stay? Is there data on how many accounts never move past that “lurker” phase?
It feels like this could be important for Hive’s growth. If newcomers don’t see a clear path from being casual participants to active contributors, it’s easy to imagine many of them dropping off. And if that’s happening, what could be done to bridge the gap?
Does Hive Already Have Tools for This?
Maybe there are initiatives out there I just haven’t come across yet. Are there onboarding communities that specifically welcome and guide new users? Does anyone track and highlight content that resonates most with newcomers? Are there tools or dApps designed to make the first few weeks easier to navigate?
As someone still learning the ropes, I’ve appreciated posts that break down Hive’s systems in simple terms or point to resources. But those aren’t always easy to find unless you already know where to look. Is there a better way to surface them, right when a new user needs them most?
Questions for the Community
I don’t have answers to these questions—just observations and curiosity. Hive has so much going for it, but growing into its full potential might depend on understanding and addressing what new users need most in their first weeks.
