Selfish to selfless is a very common comparison, at least in the region I grew up. My parents, especially my mother often used to say these words to me. "If you are selfish you will be able to rise and grow but you will always be alone, but if you are selfless, you will have people around you to always help you." Her words still echoes in my daily life and I try to reflect upon them.
If you are selfish you will be able to know the best for yourself and will be able to apply such in your life. You will be able to take care of yourself and survive in the world. When you will start to come in contact with more people and they will start to become your life, you will start to even be possessive towards them and start to think for them too, resulting as you will be thinking for their best. Now, when doing so you will lose many people, many different kinds of people, and people with different mindsets will not be able to accept you as a whole. While many others will accept you the way you are.
From being your own King, you will start to realize that the world outside is bad and thinking about yourself is not so bad. While being the King of your own world, life will start to become fair and sound. As you will see many people using others and taking advantage of others, while you are not doing so, you are sound to your terms and you are known to be the survivor.
The selfish self starts to reveal and become selfless as the self is given more opportunities to observe and mingle with many kinds of people. Mingling around with the crowd always allows one to look at the bigger picture. It enables the self to think beyond what works in their head. Once the self starts to think about the people dearest to them, these selfish people start to change.
They start to reveal their locked self. They tend to relocate themselves and their state of mind. Life starts to change for them, and the people who knew them start to acknowledge the new version of those people. Selfish people tend to become the most selfless and caring people, once they start to change. Change is sometimes very good and sometimes very bad, in these cases, change is good. This change is a positive change, may it have a selfish cause behind it yet, it is a positive change.
All that people actually need is that moment of reflection when things start to change and revolve in their world. Sometimes it is a very easy task, sometimes it is the most hardest of all. From people to people it differs and that is where is comes that we humans are humans, very different and unique in our own character and mind. However, we are the only ones that can make life easier and possible, at the end of the day. With us the page starts and ends. So, now, you decide how will you shape your life.
