It is made of thin slices of raw fish, pickled ginger, shredded vegetables, and a sweet-sour sauce which is poured in a clockwise motion, signifying smooth journeys and plans.
People also express their good wishes by calling out phrases such as "Gong Xi Fa Cai" and "Wan Shi Ru Yi" which means to have wealth and all one's wishes fulfilled, as well as "Nian Nian You Yu" which signifies abundance throughout the year.
Other Chinese idioms such as "Shen Ti Jian Kang" (good health), "Tian Tian Mi Mi" (sweetness in life and relationships), and "Heng Ah, Ong Ah, Huat Ah are also called out.
