My man and I did our first house-sit about three years ago in Bulgaria. It was great and really saved us back then! We ended up staying there for 10 months, had our first experiences with off-grid living and growing food in the garden. Since then we had a few gigs and a new one is coming up in a few weeks.
It has always been a great opportunity to get out of the van for a while, to enjoy having some more space, a proper kitchen and a hot shower, while also helping people out. We definitely learned a lot along the way, had experiences that we wouldn’t have had otherwise. I wouldn’t want to miss one of them, not even the challenging ones.
But I also really hope, this upcoming house-sit will be our last one.

As great as it is, with every gig I realize more and more how much I long to have my own place.
When I live in another one’s home I basically live their life. I live by their rules, I take care of the things that they chose to have. I live the way they chose for themselves.
And of course this can never be exactly the way I would choose to live, because we’re all different.
It’s great to learn from other people, how they solve problems, how they take care of their garden, house and animals. Especially from people that chose a life that’s close to how I want to live, like the two we’ll be house-sitting for in a few weeks.
But still … it’s not my life.
It’s not my home.
I’m ready now to live by my own rules. I’ve grown enough to feel confident and able to take care of my own place.
I'm ready for the next step, the new challenge, whatever it might look like.
I’m finally ready to be an adult, I guess ^^
