Taking Criticism

The only way to avoid criticism is to do nothing, see nothing, and be nothing.

I was washing my clothes when I first heard this quote, and it struck me so much that I had to pause and reason it a bit. Every single good thing that has been done, and even good things that are being done there is always at least one person dropping criticism. Recently, I have found myself a bit more active on Twitter and It is a very good reflection of this. No matter how heartwarming, or enthusiastic the tweet is, there's always someone ready to drop some criticism. Some even go as far as saying they are "Haters" just so they can spread the negativity. I am not going to lie I find some of their hate comments funny, but the majority of the time they are just flat out irrational and confusing. While some of them come from a place of envy.

Whether we like it or not criticism is a part of life. Whatever you do must surely be criticized and it is up to you to decide how you take it. I recently received some criticism from one of my friends and in the moment I didn't take it well, but then I went back to think about the criticism and I realized they were right. Of course, I apologized to them afterwards. And I have been actively working to be better in that regard since then.

You know, as I was writing this I just realized that even doing nothing will not save you from criticism. Someone will come out of nowhere and still tell you that you are lazy. So yeah, the quote is somewhat wrong. But then, why not try to do something good and then get criticised instead of being lazy, not accomplishing anything and still getting criticised? That's a waste of criticism in my opinion. At least if you're doing something good the criticism won't hold water.

But then, criticism isn't necessarily always bad. There are times when we need to be criticized to see the flaws of what we are currently doing. This is why there is such a thing as constructive criticism. And even non-constructive criticism can be helpful if you try not to take it to heart, since they'd usually target the flaws first. You can always take those and use it to better yourself.

So yeah, I choose not to be nothing. I choose to keep putting effort and to actively work towards doing good and productive things. And when the criticism comes (cause it'll come), I'll take it in, evaluate and see if it'll actually make things better. And if it will, I'll put in effort to make that improvement.

Oshey....Our Philosopher.
This is really nice. Truly, whether or not we do anything, people will still find fault in us and we'd still be criticized, so why not just do something worthwhile and fulfilling?

I'm sure your friend who criticised you meant well and I'm glad you had an open mind towards receiving it as well. It was lovely reading this, B0s.🫶🏾
