"The 'Gurus' in Our Time"

Last night, I was browsing TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, and I noticed that on the web, there are many people who want to teach their users how to succeed in life, how to earn money, or how to be happier.

Do we have to find the right teachers to completely entrust ourselves to in order to learn in life? Are there individuals who, in their specific field of expertise, are so knowledgeable that they hold absolute and indisputable truths? Is it sufficient, then, if we want to learn from them and become equally knowledgeable, to listen to and faithfully follow their teachings? Does our success in life depend on having encountered the right person at the right time, a "guru" who has illuminated the path for us?

I don't believe so. Today, I was reflecting on how to best find answers to the questions that life presents to us every day, on what attitude is best to adopt in facing difficulties. Every day, unpredictable events happen around us, and life puts many obstacles in our path. We must continually make choices in a complex world that is in constant and rapid change. Every day, we need solutions and answers of various kinds that can help us understand how to move forward, what to do, and which solution to adopt for our problems. In this reality full of uncertainties in which we all live today, we often feel the need to receive clear answers, from someone who finally indicates with certainty what we should do to solve our problem or achieve our goal. We feel the need for a secure guide, someone to lead us definitively towards the solution. We feel the need to have life masters whom we can blindly trust. But in my opinion, it's pointless to look for them. This kind of masters doesn't exist.

In life, there are no right and valid paths for everyone and every situation because I believe that each of us, as a unique and unrepeatable being, is experiencing a life condition and an experience different from others and not replicable. Of course, the story of our life and our current situation may be similar to that of someone else: we can talk and compare with each other and help each other. This is certainly useful.

But we must realize that there is no one right path to follow. No one will ever find it because we are all different and each living a different life. What can we do? In my opinion, we need to start accepting that everyone must strive to work out the answers to the questions that are important to them at that moment, without succumbing to dependence on "experts" with a passive attitude.

Out there, there is no one who possesses absolute truth or the answer to all our problems.

This does not mean that we should not listen to what others tell us! The knowledge and experiences that others communicate to us are the material to which we must add our thoughts to decide autonomously and critically what is the most correct thing to do at that moment to solve a problem, face a situation, or improve our living conditions.

My reflection today is an invitation not to adhere mechanically and unaware to those who want to sell you a truth, a solution, a lifestyle. Our ability to think is the most beautiful and precious thing we have: let's listen to what others want to communicate to us, but let's reflect and not lose trust in our ability to independently find the best answers and solutions most suitable for our lives.
