Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to talk about how we can impact how we interact with the world just by our mindset!

Mindset Drives You
The other day I was thinking how important your mindset is when you are going around.
The weather here where I live has been pretty cold lately. Definitely a lot colder than it has been in recent years, but I think that's good as well as refreshing. When the winter is hovering around the 40's the whole time, that doesn't really feel like a winter in any real sense. It just looks blah and there's no snow or other fun stuff. With the constant cold temperatures though, that can make things a little difficult in terms of feeling good because we are likely spending a lot less time outside, and getting less exposure.
For me, one of the things that I've noticed is yeah it's cold out, but in reality it's not THAT cold out on some days. I get in the car and start it and the thermostat reads a nice 26 degrees. I think that feels actually pretty good, because a few days ago that thermostat was reading 7.. so I found it quite interesting that I felt like it was "warm" outside when it was closer to, or at the freezing mark instead of well below it. I know that there are a lot of people who don't consider that same thing, and I live with one.. but you can't control how other people see situations, only yourself.
That got me thinking, that it also had a lot to do with the mindset that you go into a situation with. I could go into the outdoor situation with a mindset of "fuck I hate the cold, this is miserable, fuck I want to move and get away from this hell-hole" and I would be far worse off in so many ways that it's unreal.
Because I was looking at it from a mindset of "this isn't actually that bad" I was able to deal with the cold a lot more than other people. When I walk by and see people, one of the first things they say is that the cold sucks. That's been something people around here have always said and I've found it fascinating and confusing. If you hate it so much, why don't you leave..? They come up with dozens of excuses as to why they won't leave, yet all they do is complain.
There is a lot of ancient wisdom that goes along the lines of "keep a negative mindset and you will become that mindset" meaning that if you are constantly on the attack with the things around you like the weather, people parking poorly and many other things all you will do is be on attack mode all the time. You will be highly dysregulated, likely have a lot of health issues and mental issues and just be an overall miserable fucking person to be around, or live with. That shit ain't cool!
I've been trying to make small adjustments in various parts of my life and my mindset has absolutely been an important one. I am glad that I've noticed that actually enjoying the cold outside has been a positive thing for me - knowing that the bitter cold is only going to last another few weeks before it lets up and turns into spring, which then turns into summer. These things are all cyclical and we need to learn how to appreciate the different bits of the cycle! We only get these cycles for a few years in real terms, to enjoy before we get things that turn things upside down such as an injury or other health thing. We might as well enjoy it!
What about you, have you tried to have a positive mindset at various things in life such as the weather since you can't control it? Let me know in the comments!
