If I could...

in #hive-1261526 months ago

I went to see the optometrist for an appointment as I was due for a new pair of glasses. Done with the eye test and all, I was told to to come back the next day for my glasses. But the next working day is Monday so I have to wait till Monday before I get my glasses.
Done with everything, I decide to stop by at a friends place on my way back, as her place was easy to locate en route home. I got to her place and I met her at her mom's store right in front of her house and we all stayed there together, catching up on everything we've missed about each other. In the course of our discussions, all the while feeding my eyes with whatever trolls the street, I came across something disheartening.

Among the people who walked past the shop, there was a pregnant woman with a big bowl of water on her head. I've never really thought deeply about it when I hear about the scarcity of water in the underdeveloped parts of Lagos. I always thought it was one of the normal hardships associated with Nigeria. In a sense, it is. But I don't know why it broke me to see the amount of stress that woman had to go through just to provide water for herself and her family. How hard that could have been, yet she was ready to do that just to guarantee her family's wellbeing.

Thinking about it all while making this post, I realized that I've been unappreciative of the little things I've been privileged to have. I remember how I and my siblings always joked casually about how we cannot carry a keg of 25litres from a relatively far distance and I realized that I've never really thought about how hard it would all have been if we weren't provided with such basics by our parents.

It's sad to see that the government aren't even making any moves towards improving the living standard of the citizens. They're more concerned with making up lists of achievements which the citizens never benefit from. This experience, also made me think about the struggles of others whom I might not have come across or even know about their hardships. If only the government would at least be kind enough, since they have forgotten that it is their duty to provide amenities for the citizens. If only they would be kind enough and not turn a deaf ear to the hardships and sufferings people are going through. If only they could open their eyes to the hardships of the citizens. I can only wish for the government to do something because there is nothing I can do within my power. I'm just a student. But if I could, I would definitely do all that it takes to reduce the level of hardship going on in Nigeria and improve the standard of living at the same time.

I didn't know I would be making a post like this earlier today but I just had to. I came across a reel on Instagram saying "when you're down, write" and I decided to do that.

It's sad how people have to fend for themselves because the government has refused to do their job of providing the most basic things.
We just have to be grateful for what we have.

Such sad reality. Like you said, we have to appreciate the little things we have. Thanks for your beautiful comment dear Trexane. I always look forward to them🥰

So many "If I could" that has ran through my mind seeing lots of hardships in this country ehn, I just pity those victims especially in a society where the government should have done something but turned deaf ears. And sometimes, it shouldn't be left to the government alone too because who are really the government? We are, the elites, the rich and wealthy ones are. These are some of the things they could come together to help with in societies and make name for themselves by helping humanity but all they are after is their greedy nature. But still, if I could, I would do it.

It's saddening to see the government turn deaf ears to the plights of the citizens. Most times, they act like their hearts have been replaced with stones. You said it right dear Busayo. If the wealthy ones would join hands together for the betterment of the society. Thank you so much for your beautiful comment princess 💕

You are welcome 😊

We really have to be grateful for the little things we have. Water is life and seeing people go through a lot is so heartbreaking.

It's really not easy at all. Thank you for sharing dreemer.

#dreemerforlife

Water is life and true sometimes we take the little things in life for granted.

Gratitude is truly everything.

Yes. We take some of the most essential things of life for granted and it's saddening because we are meant to be appreciative of them. Thanks for reading through dear Amie💕

It's a pleasure.

Tough
I feel so sorry for her...

I do too🥺

It is the sad reality of the majority of people who live in countries with precarious conditions with respect to basic services such as water, electricity, cooking gas, etc.
They only care about themselves and not about their people. It is unfortunate.

The government aren't bothered about the living conditions of those under them. It's mostly about fattening their pockets. It is quite sad to see people suffering from lack of basic services in a country where taxation is enforced every now and then. Thanks for reading 💕.

Thank you for sharing this. When I was a child people used to talk about the upcoming water scarcity, and even the media would constantly highlight the troubles faced by people in rural areas, especially women. Nowadays it feels like no one cares anymore, though the situation is only getting worse. We have to share our thoughts at least with each other as the powerful don't care. I am happy about small changes like the tubewells being dug by Hive to help impoverished communities with water.

Cheers from a fellow #dreemerforlife

It is getting worse. The cost of things are on the rise daily.

If we have no means of supporting, the best we can do is to share our thoughts and hopefully, people who have the means can take it up from there. I too, I'm happy that Hive is lending a helping hand to those in the impoverished communities. Thanks for reading through dear brijwhiz. I appreciate your wonderful comment.

It's amazing that it only takes just a look at someone else's life for us to pause and truly think...

all the "what ifs"

I love that you came to write when you saw these things. I wish more people shared their thoughts like this. We have so many things deep in our hearts - so many things that should come out and be shared.

Do this often :)

Excellent post today dreemer :)

It's amazing that it only takes just a look at someone else's life for us to pause and truly think...

And at that moment, we realize all the little things we have been overlooking.

What better way to convey those thoughts deep in our hearts than through writing? I will try my best to share thoughts like this as frequently as they come. Thanks for this heartwarming comment dreemie💕. I really appreciate it

I always tell people these posts are the best (in my opinion)
the ones that bring our humanity to the surface... that share our hearts and connect us... that make us realize how similar we all are...

so many people writing about finance, and crypto, and things we can research on Google hahaha

not that those are bad posts...but the post above... your heart... THAT is what has the most value on Hive - I think :)

Haa dreemie, you're making my head swell o. Lol.
I actually agree with you on this. Sharing your thoughts and making posts that describe humanity beautifully is the best.

hehehe have a sweet weekend ❤️

You're so right dear friend. The economy is not favorable at all, especially to the lower class.they Arthur ones that suffers the most💔

#dreemerforlife

It is not favourable. And that is why many people are bent on finding greener pastures in other countries. Thanks for reading through dear dreemer.

You're welcome

Releasing pent up emotions via writing or sharing it with someone really helps.
The picture you painted of the pregnant woman fetching water is so sad, this and more what most pregnant women go through in this part of the world. It's quite a pity.

#dreemerforlife

Yes. Bottling up emotions is never the best most times. It's quite a pity. We just have to keep hoping that things will get better with time. Thanks for reading through fellow dreemer💕
