MY THOUGHT ON DIVORCE.

kelly sikkema

I always wonder why couples get married one moment and later get a divorce certificate. It baffles me lots of times. I keep thinking why get together when you don't even know each other well to spend the rest of your life together?

"You know, I have this trauma of getting married because the people around me keep failing in their marriages".

At a young age, my parents start going against each other, once a peaceful house is now a war ground, they were never a moment of peace in the house, especially with my father, he takes little things so hard to the extent that he takes it out on his children and it's given me a lot of trauma.
"Is this how my marriage will turn out when I am old enough to get married? If so, I don't ever want to get married"
This is how I thought when I was younger. It lasted for so many years until they later got a divorce. But what is the usefulness of the love you said you had when you started the relationship? I think marriage is to be filled with Love, companionship, trust, understanding, and patience. And before you go into marriage check your attributes, Does your partner have this attribute? Can you take his/her temper? Even when the love dies down can the marriage still work in the future, most importantly "Are you ready? ".

After my parents' divorce, I was so sad and helpless, it was new to me, like living without my Father. I asked my mother one day why did you marry him. She said it was a mistake on her part as they just rushed into things because they felt like they were not getting any younger. Like, who thinks like that, now see where the rushing leads them to.

So many collapsed marriages, I can't count. Then I thought why rush into marriage just to come out with a divorce certificate?
So I think we should check with each other and see if truly we fit each other's characters and if the love fades, will there still be understanding, trust, and all you can think you need to hold your family? What most of us don't know is that divorce affects children the most.

Thanks for reading with me. This is my reflection on "Divorce".
