Every day is special and comes with its uniqueness, but today came with a different energy. Early this morning, I received a visitor I never expected. Around 8:30 a.m., as I was trying to sweep and do some cleaning, I heard a knock on our door. It was one of my bosses whom I respect so much. She had always promised to come and pay a visit, but I assumed she hadn't had the chance. At some point, I decided not to bother her anymore or take her promises too seriously since she always reminded me that she would visit. Her visit, therefore, came as a surprise.
At first, I wondered how she got the description of our house. It wasn’t until I saw an important neighbour of ours, who had been with her for some time, that I understood how she found it.
She sat down, and I had to suspend everything else I was doing to attend to her. I gave her a warm welcome and offered to prepare a meal for her, but she explained that she had other places to go due to the nature of her job. I understood, so instead, I offered her a drink. She promised to come around another time as soon as possible, and I felt happy and elated to have hosted her. She seemed pleased too, especially when she played with my daughter and took pictures with her. It was such a wonderful experience.
Another interesting thing that happened today, which I wasn’t expecting, was receiving a call from a pregnant friend of mine. I didn’t think her delivery day would come so soon. She had been pregnant for nine months, but her due date was scheduled for the middle of next month. So, receiving the gracious news of her delivery was a pleasant surprise. She had given birth to a bouncing baby boy.
I was thrilled when I heard the news. It was her first child, and we all know that motherhood comes with its own pains and challenges. Having experienced it myself, I admired her strength. I was especially grateful to learn that she had the baby naturally, not through a cesarean section.
The moment I got the news, my boss had just left. I quickly boarded the next cab to the hospital to offer any help I could, as her husband is a frequent traveller. When I arrived, I was able to assist with some errands and support her.
