Ontem, dei por mim, a ficar boquiaberto com uma das últimas ordens executivas assinadas pelo Presidente Trump. "Vamos voltar às palhinhas de plástico". Eu nem queria acreditar que entre reuniões de vários elementos da sua governação para alcançar a paz no Médio Oriente, e na Ucrânia, que algo que foi mudado há meia dúzia de anos, para o bem do ambiente, fosse agora revogado, com o pretexto de nunca terem servido para o seu propósito.
E será que a vida de plástico é fantástica? Não me parece que possa ser o rumo mais acertado. Quase semanalmente há estudos que são publicados, com a influência e a dispersão dos microplásticos. A sua presença não é somente mais do que substancial no meio ambiente, como já é também isolado em células dos vários micro-organismos, e mesmo nos seres vivos de maiores dimensões, que se alimentam e que as inalam...
Será que é errado voltar atrás? Eu penso que não. Mas haverá uma verdadeira vontade de fazer melhor do que está actualmente a ser feito, ou apenas uma necessidade de mudar por mudar?
Disse, no vídeo que eu partilhei, o Presidente que as palhinhas de papel não servem. Que se desfazem com o calor, ou que explodem (?) - o que queria ele dizer com explosão? Pois o significado que eu tenho é algo um pouco trágico, e algo difícil de atingir por uma simples palhinha de uma bebida à venda em qualquer supermercado...
Será que um Presidente deveria estar a publicitar algo que me parece que apenas vá servir para um pequeno grupo de investidores? Será que a vida dos americanos é assim tão miserável com as palhinhas de papel? São tudo questões para as quais eu não tenho qualquer resposta plausível e com sentido.
Criar taxas aduaneiras para tentar proteger a industria do país pode não ser a verdadeira estratégia que leve a economia americana a virar a deflexão. Aliás, ao cobrar taxas aos produtos que são usados para a produção ou para o consumo nos EUA, irá levar a um aumento do custo desses mesmos bens, ou produtos acabados para o consumidor final, que vai ser sobrecarregado com mais um custo.
No fim, quem acaba por sair a ganhar é somente o Cofre dos EUA, que irão certamente arrecadar muitos biliões de dólares.
Apesar de não ser um tema que eu goste muito de debater, e não vejam nesta publicação uma critica à actual administração Trump, ou mesmo ao partido Republicano; é sim, uma reflexão das actuais movimentações que estão a acontecer de segundo para segundo... E algumas delas, sem aparente conexão com a realidade, como diz a canção: "Imaginação, a vida é uma criação tua”.
Espero encontrar-vos por aqui amanhã. Obrigado pela atenção que deram à minha publicação. As ideias e palavras que aqui empreguei, são apenas uma visão minha da actualidade, não reflectindo ódio ou desaprovação das forças politicas ou sistemas democráticos de nenhum país.

The next thing I knew I remembered the lyrics to the pop song by dos Aqua from way back in 1997...
“I'm a Barbie girl in a Barbie world
Life in plastic is fantastic
You can brush my hair, undress me anywhere
Imagination, life is your creation”
Yesterday, I found myself dumbfounded by one of the latest executive orders signed by President Trump. “We're going back to plastic straws”. I couldn't believe that between meetings of various elements of his government to achieve peace in the Middle East and Ukraine, that something that was changed half a dozen years ago for the good of the environment would now be revoked on the pretext that they never served their purpose.
And is the plastic life fantastic? I don't think it's the right course of action. Studies are published almost weekly on the influence and spread of microplastics. Not only is their presence in the environment more than substantial, but they have also been isolated in the cells of various micro-organisms, and even in the larger living beings that feed on and inhale them...
Is it wrong to go back? I don't think so. But is there a real desire to do better than what is currently being done, or just a need to change for the sake of change?
In the video I shared, the President said that paper straws are no good. That they fall apart in the heat, or that they explode (?) - what did he mean by explosion? Because the meaning I have is something a bit tragic, and something difficult to achieve with a simple straw from a drink on sale in any supermarket...
Should a president be advertising something that I think will only be of use to a small group of investors? Are Americans' lives really that miserable with paper straws? These are all questions to which I have no plausible, meaningful answer.
Creating tariffs to try to protect the country's industry may not be the real strategy to turn the American economy around. In fact, levying tariffs on products that are used for production or consumption in the US will lead to an increase in the cost of those same goods, or finished products for the end consumer, who will be burdened with yet another cost.
In the end, it's only the US coffers that stand to gain, and they will certainly rake in many billions of dollars.
Although it's not a topic I like to discuss much, and I don't see this post as a criticism of the current Trump administration, or even of the Republican party; it is, rather, a reflection on the current moves that are happening from second to second... And some of them with no apparent connection to reality, as the song says: “Imagination, life is your creation”.
