Whenever I go home, one of my favorite things to do is sit in the garden with a cup of coffee while admiring my mother-in-law's beautiful ornamental plants. The sound of the wind in the plant leaves and the chilly morning breeze are very comforting. The morning dew on the flowers and leaves is my favorite one to watch because that's where the bugs and other garden insects sip and get some water.
Contrary to our city life, where we usually wake up late during the weekend and holidays, the rooster and chicks' early morning alarm always wakes us up in the countryside. It's a signal to get up, get coffee, and start your day. Compared to the city, where there was little room for outdoor activity, our routine is much healthier here. Given a chance, I will always choose a provincial life and build our own home here.
My dream is to build a house with a spacious front and backyard where I can plant colorful ornamental and vegetable plants. To live a sustainable life where I will also raise chickens to produce eggs for our own consumption and a little pond on the side to raise fish. Simple dreams, but we need to live with the reality that a simple farm life cannot pay bills and send kids to school. Maybe in the future, we will make these simple dreams a reality. This morning view of the garden cannot help but make me dreamy.
As I finished my coffee, it was a sign to start doing chores. I started making breakfast for the family. The kids are still in the garden, playing with the slugs they found in one of the garden plants.
What simple things do you do first thing in the morning that brighten your entire day?
If given a chance, would you rather live in the city or in the countryside?
