During a recent visit to Farne Island in Northumberland, UK, we found out the island is famous for its diverse bird population. It was mostly guillemots on the cliffs.
Among the other birds we saw, razorbills were a common sight, with their distinctive black and white plumage and bright red feet. They were perched on the cliffs, and then diving into the water, hunting for fish.
The kittiwake is known for its white body, grey wings, and black markings on its head and wing and bright yellow bill. Kittiwakes prefer to nest on cliffs and rocky ledges overlooking the sea.
We also spotted shags, with their striking green eyes and sleek black plumage.
Black-headed gulls were also a constant presence. You couldn't fail to hear their distinctive call overhead.
Overall, our visit to Farne Island was a memorable experience. It was great to see these birds up close, especially the puffins.
