Galinsoga parviflora quickweed pl 4.jpg

The one weed that comes to mind right after hearing "I have to go weed the garden" is this one. It is everywhere. And it is always there. Even after you think you pulled all th little and big ones. It is still there. That's how cool is it!

Galinsoga parviflora

There is a reason why it is called a quickweed. One of the first that pop from the ground in early spring and one od the lasts that will die after the winter finally comes and freezes everything around.

It is native to South America but it took over the world like a real champ. It can be found in both Americas, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia...

It grows like a mess reaching maybe 50 cm, though som stems can be longer. They bend and tangle with each other.

Small thin leaves and tiny little daisy like flowers are edible and can be used in soups and salads. Now when you think of how fast is grows and how little care (none) it deeds that is a lot of free food :D

Blooming time - all year round as soon as the stems mature. And they do really grow in the speed of light.

There is another one called Galinsoga quadriradiata that looks almost the same and is equally weedy.

It is impossible to get rid of completely unless you have some always hungry animals like chickens or goats that will eat whatever sprouts). It just a never-ending battle to remove what you an so it doesn't suffocate the veggies you actually planted and want to grow.

As a young girl I was feeling bad for it when it was blooming so nicely and my mum was piking it out. So I was taking the ones with roots and was planting them back in my own little garden (I had like a square meter of garden for myself an I could do what I wanted. So I was planting weeds!).

Free and nice-looking food :)
Ow, you were saving them and planting in your own little garden? :) Cool, you are not a #plantkiller but a #plantsaviour 😇

It is nice when you are not trying to grow lettuce or any other veggie :p

There's a lot of weeds at the vacant lot behind our house whose flowers look exactly like the ones you showed here but the difference is their leaves aren't as big. I have been for the longest time thinking of posting about them but haven't got around to doing so. I'll be sure to tag you once I make one, hopefully in the near future 😊

Its probably different then.
Yes, please tag me. I want to see what you got there :)

We have these in the garden and never thought about them as a weed :) Did you know this thing has one of the best iron content among all the plants you can find ;) If I remember right, 4 times more than nettle.

Ohh that I dint know! You eat them?

Yes, I put them into stir fries, sauteed vegies, or with spinach in classic way. Sometimes even into the salad.

Hello dear friend @ewkaw good day
I must be the only person who lives in South America who doesn't know her, it's good that she has never been in my garden, although I must admit that she is very pretty
I appreciate that you let us know these beautiful images
Have a happy start to the weekend

Aww, I’d love to see your little weedy garden 😍

I remember these from my childhood in Poland. I barely see them in England. Never knew they were edible though. That’s a lot of free food indeed! I have many other edible weeds in my garden too 😁💙

If only I had som photos. It was cute :D

Yea, in PL it is everywhere! Show yours :p

I will show mine’s I promise! Joining Hive spins my head from all the ideas to write about. I’ve never felt so inspired in my life to write and share all that I have stored in my phone galleries 😍

I can almost feel how pumped you are! That's awesome :D
Now all the hoarded photos will see the daylight :)

Oh I am. I’ve never met such an amazing community on any other platform. Yes, all those hidden gems will finally find the daylight and stay here in the blockchain forever, leaving my tiny mark. I love this 💙

😂😂😂

How do you even post those gifs here? I can’t see an option to find any!

You can do that from peakd.com. Which frontend do you use?

So I was planting weeds!).

Khm, weeds... I can bet you have some photo of it somewhere, I can sense that was a project, I can see that seriousness...(:

Nooo.. no photos :( But I liked my little garden. I had daisies an some dandelions, violets and Snowdrops I borrowed from my grandparents garden. They are still blooming every year :D
Plus a bunch of rescued wees :)

I can picture that, my mom had a three huge gardens, wonderful chubby roses all year long, petals served me as my sand cake decoration. 🙄

Luckily I haven't leaved near by yours. :p

Oh, if you like the weeds, let me introduce you to creeping woodsorrel. It looks like small clover, grows fast and wide, has beautiful yellow flowers and when growing in open area its leaves become dark purple.
Looks great on garden paths or at the side of the concrete road. Unfortunately it likes to invade vegetable patches, or any area for that matter.

It is supposedly edible (never tried).

Last year I decided to plant the sorrel in freshly vacated flowerpot at home. It quickly jumped to other pots, took all free ground and even "invaded" curtain and ceiling (it shoots lots of tiny grains that are covered in some glue, so it easily attaches even to the window pane). It took me two months of daily weeding out every little bud to get rid of it - in the garden it is an impossible task.

I know this one and I like it a lot!
Even posted about it not so long ago :D I think its the same...

It quickly jumped to other pots

Oh yes.. thy spread in a speed of light! I have som green type in my pots an they just keep growing.
But what it did to you is another lvl :p
