Although the sun is shining brightly and almost burning my face, the cold wind pervades my body. My coat is in my backpack, I only pick it up when I climb the hill. Rabbits cross my path, smaller than hares and live in underground cavities. There may be as many as thousands under my feet, but since they have already felt my approach from miles away, most of them are hiding and there are only a few sentries outside. They might know I’m just hunting with a camera and not hurting them. I sit in a sheltered place and watch. Maybe I need to sit here for hours? Luckily no! True, the little guys are at least 30 feet away from me, some with only their ears out of the hole. But there are some that completely shows itself!
These small rabbits are considered a pest here because they destroy all the grass, promoting erosion. But the real trouble is that they have few natural enemies, so they multiply at times.
Wow, a rare black one!
The landscape is rather barren, dry. The heat is unbearable in summer. There is a good chance it could become a desert within a few decades. It used to be a military training ground, now cyclists and sometimes unfortunately cross bikers go for it, ruining the lawn. It has been a nature reserve for some time, but this is ignored by many.
The birds are still silent, but they will start nesting in 3-4 weeks. Much warmer weather is expected by then. This little field sparrow was not scared of me, it sat on the tree for a long time and allowed itself quite close. To see up close that its plumage is not boring at all, its colors and pattern are very beautiful.
Unlike barren hills, the field is getting greener. The deer go to the wheat field to graze. I’m lucky to be able to take a relatively close-up photo of them because the wind is blowing from them and I’m careful not to make sudden movements.
I finally see a little water connecting two large reservoirs. Next to it is a dense forest of poplar trees, the habitat of many animals and plants. If you take a closer look at the picture, you will see a bird in the middle. What kind of bird?
If you can't see it, here's a close-up of a white egret. Glamorous, graceful bird.
I look south and I see this: the reservoir of Pátka and behind it the Velencei hills from which I came.
I look north and I see the limestone cliffs of the Vértes mountains with the town of Csákvár.
It’s time to go home, I don’t want to have to roam in the dark. Luckily I will get to the bus stop in time. I am tired but happy and peaceful as always when I walk in nature.
I wish you to spend a lot of time in a natural environment, which is very useful not only for the body but also for the soul!
