Entry for Amazing Nature Contest: FREE TOPIC — #2/6/23 — Yellow-Spotted Tiger Moth

in #hive-1277882 years ago

Time to get outside and see what's happening in the natural world right now; which is a large part of why I like this particular challenge!

This is my entry for the Amazing Nature Community's weekly "Amazing Nature Contest: FREE TOPIC - #2/6/23" challenge, organized by @bucipuci.

I didn't have to get far before I found something interesting!

Sitting on one of the painted columns holding up our back patio was this very eye-catching moth.

A little poking around with Google images revealed that it's a "Yellow-Spotted Tiger Moth," which is not that uncommon around our part of the world.

Maybe it gets its name from the fact that the markings on its head almost look like a tiny cat-like face (best visible in the 1st photo)?

It sat quite still, as I photographed it from several angles. It was a bit of a misty morning here, so it was probably glad to have a covered spot, out of the mist.

I thought it was quite unusual, since most night-flying moths tend to be less vivid and eye-catching.

I don't know what the fuzzy looking stuff on its left front wing is... I'm guessing it's part of an old spiderweb.

I thought it was a rather good example of how amazing nature can be! Just look at that furry head and legs!

In close-up, it almost looks like a strange creature from another world!

Anyway, sharing it here first, but since the photos were quite good I'll probably also share it to a Butterflies and Moths study group I belong to.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoyed the pictures!

LEO Power Up Day - June 15, 2023

Thank you for entering the contest.
We haven't had an article about insects here for a long time.

That's a very pretty moth, I've never seen one like it before. Thanks for sharing @labyrinths.

Tiger Moth is indeed amazing and looks so weird, like it's from another planet 😀
