Chipmunk!

     

🎵 Chipmunks, meet the Chipmunks.
They're in the squirrel fam-i-ly.
From un-der-neath the back porch.
They'll dance and sing with joy-ous glee! 🎵

     For far too long, the very bottom of a bag of wild bird seed sat on the back porch. Tucked away behind a table. There were just the "crumbs" left. So, I decided to stop putting it off and dump the rest so I could finally get rid of the bag. I spread the feed on the ground, close to the area where the doves were hiding out. Doves are ground feeders, and I figured they could use another meal option.

     Well, no doves ever made an appearance. In fact, no birds of any kind wanted the ass-end of that feed bag. Of course, I wasn't surprised when a squirrel showed up to stuff it's cheeks. They never seem to miss a free meal. I was surprised and delighted, however, when a chipmunk decided to prance onto the scene.

     

     

     

     

     
     This chipmunk makes it's home somewhere around my back porch. Possibly underneath it. I've seen them quite often but never at a time when my camera was handy. Fortunately, this time was different.

     Curious as to how chipmunks got their name, I did a little research. It turns out, they get their name from the "chip chip" sound they make. That explains the "chip" part of the name. What about the "munk" part? Further research lead me to this definition of munk from the urban dictionary: "slang term for the male tes-"😳 Nevermind. Some things are better off remaining a mystery.

     This chipmunk spent a lot of time foraging in the grass. Stuffing as much food into it's cheeks as possible before running off to some local storage vault. Then, it would return to repeat the process all over. Hey, nobody else seemed interested in the food. So, good for you, little chipmunk.
