Appreciate Beauty of Nature with @phortun: round 202

in #hive-12778811 months ago

Hey there my Hive friends and followers!

Welcome to the 202nd round of my special weekly photo challenge known as Appreciate Beauty of Nature with @phortun :)

Important note: I have been hosting this challenge in the same format for almost 4 years but I recently decided to introduce some major changes to it so please read all the updates below. The essence of this challenge stays the same though so the intro part will be the same as it was before.

I know a lot of photo contests with nature as the main theme were/are/will be hosted by various people on the Hive blockchain but I wanted to come up with something more than just another photo contest where participants would submit their best natural photos. Therefore, I decided to go for quite an unusual concept that I am going to introduce in the following lines.

The aim of the Appreciate Beauty of Nature with @phortun photo challenge is not to make you dig up your photo archives and submit the best pictures of nature that you have ever taken. Instead, I want you guys to go out and appreciate the beauty of our nature right now.

The internet (and the Hive blockchain as well) is flooded with picture perfect shots of landscapes, mountains, forests, beaches etc. taken years ago. But this is not what I want to see in this challenge. I want to see shots that may not be necessarily stunning but they must be fresh, proving that you have just physically spent some time outdoors in the fresh air. But remember that nature comes in many forms. It doesn´t have to be a pristine jungle or a deep remote forest. An urban park, a botanical garden, a little grove on the outskirts of your town - pretty much any place with some trees, plants, rocks, bodies of water or any other natural features would be just as fine ;)

HERE COME THE UPDATES

Originally, the prizes for the winners were just my full upvotes given to their entries but since, unfortunately, I lately had to power down significantly, my upvotes are not that big and motivating anymore so I decided to reward the winners of each round with additional 1.5 Hive each. So now, the winners get my full upvotes on their entries plus 1.5 Hive each. All of the other valid entries will be rewarded with some smaller (usually 50%) upvotes too so that all participants get rewarded for their engagement in this challenge.

In the past, I usually hosted this challenge on Thursday but because of the reasons described below, I cannot guarantee that anymore so now, I may roll out the new round on Thursday, Friday or even Saturday so if you guys don´t want to miss out on the fun here, please check out my blog regularly.

Also, in the past, I always tried to lead by example and thus open each new round with my own fresh natural photo taken during the previous 7 days. However, as you might now from my recent posts, me and my wife are now taking care of our newborn baby and it takes just so much time and energy that I simply don´t have the time to go out and take fresh natural photos anymore (btw late autumn and winter here in Central Europe are not favorable seasons for natural photography anyway) so instead, I will be using my old photos from cool natural places around the world that I have been to. Hopefully, in a few months, I will be able to go out to nature regularly again and take a nice fresh picture for each round just like I did it over the years but before that happens, I will show you some beautiful natural places that I got to see during our travels. It will also be a nice way for me to remember and relive those moments from the times when it was just me and my wife, traveling around the world - happy, young and free :)

THE RULES

I want to keep the rules of this challenge as simple and benevolent as possible so let´s agree on just this:

Only one entry (photo) per person per round.

The photo must be yours and not older than 7 days.

Add a few lines about the photo (at least 50 words) including the date and location.

You can start submitting your entries to this round in the comment section below from now until the next round. If you want to create a separate post as your entry, you can do that but please always remember to submit your entry in the form of a comment here under this post as well. I only check the entries submitted here as comments.

Prior to publishing the next round, I will pick 3 winners, give my full upvotes on their entries and send them 1.5 Hive each as the prize. The winning entries will be featured in the next round of the challenge. I also give smaller upvotes on the other valid entries as I mentioned before.

So that´s it. Let me now open the new round of my photography challenge called Appreciate Beauty of Nature with @phortun :)

My Hive friend @pardinus recently wrote a post about misty lakes and that made me remember misty lakes from the Azores where mist, fog and rainy weather are very common. One of the places where we stayed on the Sao Miguel Island was within the walking (hiking would be more appropriate haha) distance from the famous Sete Cidades lakes and I saw them shrouded in mist many times but the picture above was taken somewhere else. It´s Lagoa do Fogo, another iconic natural landmark of the island. But don´t let the name of the lake fool you. Despite the common occurrence of fog, the word Fogo actually has a completely different meaning as that´s the Portuguese word for fire. So why Fire Lake? Because it´s situated in a crater of the youngest volcano on the island that last erupted as recently as in the 16th century. We only visited this lake once during our time on the island but I hope to see it again at some point in future as I´m sure it looks absolutely spectacular on a sunny day with great visibility.

In the last round of this challenge, we had 10 participants. After some thorough consideration, I decided to pick these 3 winners:

@nenio with this entry from Venezuela:

el-avila-001.jpg

A view of "El Ávila" National Park, a group of mountains located in front of Caracas (Venezuela). One characteristic thing of these mountains is its deep tree color. Notice the peak located at the left the images, it it named “Topo Bergantín o Topo Dos Bandera” (“Peak two flags”) due to its shape of double peak. The photo was taken last week.

@triplug with this entry from Romania:

I am very happy to be here again at the contest launched by @phortun and even more happy to show all of you who visit this contest a special place for me. Here in Romania, these days a polar air came over us and we have only frost. Despite the frost outside, we chose to take a walk along the banks of the Mures River to see if it froze or not. Apparently it hasn't been cold enough to freeze the banks yet, I remember somewhere about 15 years ago we had a freezing week with temperatures of -19 degrees when the Mures River partially froze and ice floes were floating on the surface of the water. The photo is taken by me today, 14.01.2024, at my place in the commune in western Romania. In the picture you can see the frozen nature, but also some big pieces of willow that was cut down a few years ago, and in the background you can see an amazing sunset. I hope you enjoy the photo I am sharing with you.

@videoaddiction with this entry from Turkiye:

Hi @phortun mate. I took this photo last week when I went to my favourite place. It is a dam-lake surrounded by forest in Istanbul, Turkiye. I and my friend sometimes go there to be in nature and get relaxed. The weather was great on that day and we wanted to take advantage of it. It is a privilege to have such a place in such a metropolis like Istanbul. I have shared some posts about it before and will share a new one soon.

Congratulations guys! It was my pleasure to give you 100% upvotes on your entries and sent 1.5 Hive each, you can check that out in your wallets :)

Which one? There 3 of them... Reading the actual post before commenting might be helpful sometimes.

Thank you very much @phortun I'm very happy that my favourite picture is among the three chosen by you, I really appreciate it.
Have a wonderful Sunday.

Absolutely, that was a really good shot. Very interesting composition and cool colors :) Cheers mate!

I'm really glad you enjoyed it, mate, see you next round.
Have a great week ahead.

Last Saturday I hiked in Jeseniky mountains. It was fun. Early in the morning, thermometer shows even -13 °C. Later during the sunny day, temp oscillates around zero. However, feelslike temperature is way lower due to stronger wind. On this photo, which was shot at the rocks on Vozka mountain (1377m), the sky is in the fire, as it is shortly after the sunset.

Orange plantations look great at this time of the year!

Man, they look delicious! So fresh and juicy :) Now you got me hungry haha. Cool entry! Would you mind telling us the name of the town too or should we leave the location at just Spain? :)

Oh, sorry about missing to point out the town... These oranges were around Altea, Spain...

No problem, thanks for adding the location :)

Hi! On the weekend, walking along one of the rural roads near the town where I live, in the interior of the province of Buenos Aires, I came across this beautiful cactus flower (Opuntia bonariensis, I guess). These cacti grow wild near the fences of the fields and are edible, both the "leaves" and the fruits. I find the "leaf" a bit slimy, but it could serve as an emergency food. The fruits are very tasty, although they are difficult to peel (they have small thorns) and to eat (lots of seeds). Greetings!

Great close up, thank you! :)

My entry:
Pulling the old leaf-bases away from our silver palm tree this morning here in Thailand gave me a good chance to look more closely at them. The tree itself is impressive with its enormous fan-shaped leaves of silvery-green but these dead sheaths were full of much less obvious textures and patterns. Up close they were well worth exploring for a few minutes. The rich browns of decay were blended into the lighter shades of drying with leathery wrinkles and cracks, flakes and fibres. It was a fascinating combination of the organised structure in the plant and the chaos of its slow disintegration.

Wow! That´s a very interesting close up. If you didn´t tell us, I would have no idea where it comes from. My first idea would probably a patch of dried up land or something like that :) Really cool, thanks.

Yes, I can see that. It struck me as looking like an old animal hide.

They all deserved the win
I love @triplug work more
Looks nice

Thank you very much @rafzat.

Congratulations! @nenio @triplug @videoaddiction

Thank you!

Thank you very much @ninahaskin.

Greetings friends, today I want to share my photography for this contest that reflects the greatest charm of my entropic city: Caracas, Venezuela. Caracas has the same pollution problems as any large city, however it has 2 large plant lungs that help it counteract the impact of urban pollution and they are: Cerro Alvila and the Botanical Garden of Caracas. They are large extensions of humid forests that have great foliage and wingspan. In this photo that I took on Friday at 2:00 p.m. I show you one of the most common configurations of these forests: The Tree Vaults!

Wow, that´s some impressive and majestic canopy! Great shot, thank you :)

Congratulations 🎉 all winners

These are really beautiful view of nature

Indeed. When will you show us the natural beauty of your place? :)

After a whole night of winter blizzard, a sky full of clouds, a beautiful and sunny day dawned in Belgrade this morning. I took a shovel and cleared the driveway to the building, and after that, I removed the snow from the car. At one point, I looked up at the sky and took this beautiful picture of snow on the branches, with a blue sky in the background.
