Greetings friends of this beautiful community. The observation of nature in any place allows us to know the diversity of living beings that coexist there. It is wonderful to be able to be close and be a simple spectator.
Saludos amigos de esta hermosa comunidad. La observación de la naturaleza en cualquier lugar nos permite conocer la diversidad de seres vivos que allí conviven. Es maravilloso poder estar cerca y ser un simple espectador.
One very sunny and hot morning, I was walking around the outskirts of the city of Maracay, in a sector surrounded by mountains where the lower part was full of dry bushes due to the long drought. Some species of trees in these conditions have lost their leaves, and others are in the process of flowering or fruiting.
Among the bushes, frightened by the noise of my footsteps in the dry leaf litter, where it was difficult not to make noise, I saw two medium-sized birds that quickly ran away at a safe distance.
Una mañana muy soleada y calurosa caminaba por los alrededores de la ciudad de Maracay, en un sector rodeado de montañas donde la parte más baja estaba llena de matorrales secos por la larga sequía. Algunas especies de árboles en estas condiciones han perdido sus hojas y otros están en proceso de floración o en fructificación.
Entre los arbustos y asustadas por el ruido de mis pisadas en la hojarasca seca, donde era difícil no hacer ruido, vi a dos aves de tamaño mediano que corrieron rápidamente alejándose a una distancia prudencial.
I tried to photograph them, but every time I approached them, they ran away.
However, I was able to take some photos that allowed me to identify them.
Trate de fotografiarlas pero cada vez que me acercaba ellas corrían, sin embargo pude tomar algunas fotos que me permitieron identificarlas.
It is a wading bird called Tero, its scientific name is Vanellus chilensis, and it is found in most of South America. Its wings are brown, with a black stripe on the neck, around the eyes, and around the beak. The abdomen is white. It has a crest on the back of the head.
Se trata de un ave zancuda llamada Tero, su nombre científico es Vanellus chilensis, y se encuentra en gran parte de América del Sur. Su alas son de color marrón, tienen una franja negra en el cuello, alrededor de los ojos y del pico. El abdomen es de color blanco. Tiene un copete en la parte de atrás de la cabeza.
This pair of Teros was walking in a pasture surrounded by bushes. I stood watching them.
They were possibly looking for insects that are part of their diet.
Esta pareja de Teros caminaba en un pastizal rodeado de matorrales. Me quedé observandolas.
Estaban buscando posiblemente insectos que son parte de su alimentación.
But these birds were not alone, as I observed another pair of larger, longer-legged birds with gray wings and a yellowish body. The face was blue, and the bill was pink. A plume of feathers hangs on the back of the head.
They were foraging in the dry grass, stretching their long necks and pecking at the ground. This bird is called the Chiflona Heron, Syrigma sibilatrix, and is essentially insectivorous. It is also distributed in South America.
Pero estas aves no estaban solas ya que pude observar otra pareja de aves más grandes y de patas más largas, con alas de color gris y cuerpo de color amarillento. La cara azul y el pico rosado. Un penacho de plumas cuelga en la parte posterior de la cabeza.
Estaban buscando alimento entre la hierba seca, estirando su largo cuello y picoteando el suelo. Esta ave la llaman Garza Chiflona Syrigma sibilatrix y es esencialmente insectivora. Tambien esta distribuida en Suramérica .
It made a high-pitched sound like a whistle, when I got too close to photograph it, and it flew away a bit, but it did not fly, it just walked fast.
Emitía un sonido agudo parecido a un silbido cuando me acercaba mucho para fotografiarla y se alejaba un poco pero no volaba, sólo caminaba rápidamente.
I sat there on a log admiring them while they went back and forth across the grassland. Both species stayed together during the time I was watching them.
Estuve allí sentada en un tronco caido, admirandolas mientras ellas iban de allá para acá recorriendo el pastizal. Ambas especies se mantuvieron juntas durante el tiempo que las estuve observando.
