Hello everyone, I bring good news and I’m so excited with what I’m about to share with you all. First of all, I’m very surprised that my mom had this electric sewing machine in the same house we live in for over 20 years and I never knew about it. I now will never doubt that Mothers are really good at hiding stuff.
One of my goals this year was to learn as many skills as possible. Thankfully, I got the opportunity to learn how to sew from my cousin during Christmas but since I returned I’ve been hunting for an electric sewing machine. I wasn’t serious about it in the beginning because my mom has the hand butterfly machine and it has been in my plans to use that one. I later found out it had to be repaired which kind of dampened my spirit.
Also, I sort of knew that the fact that I learned with an electric machine will make me feel lazy with the hand machine.
Just yesterday, I was discussing with my mom my plans to buy an electric sewing machine on my birthday. After she found out the prices ranged from 2000 Ghana cedis to 4000 Ghana cedis, she “miraculously” remembered that she had an electric sewing machine which she barely used because she was so used to the hand machine.
I was so shocked. I didn’t understand why she kept such a thing from me. In her defense, she sees how much time I spend on crocheting and thinks that I might spend more time on the machine and forget to eat. Which is kind of true though because I’ve been on the machine the whole of today and I’m yet to eat.
It’s a vintage electric sewing machine but it’s hard to find out what model or brand it is because there are little to no inscriptions on it. I have a fair idea of how it operates because it has similar features as the machine I learned how to sew with. I’m not sure I understand a lot of things on it but that’s fine because I’m taking it step by step. I spent hours trying to thread the bobbin alone. It’s similar to the one I used to learn but this is vintage and we know how complicated vintage is.
I can’t even stop expressing how excited I am at the moment because I was going to travel back to my cousin’s place in September to resume my lessons because of how passionate I am about sewing. I’m not surprised though, my mom is literally a grandmaster in sewing, hehe. It’s probably in the family. I’m still exploring the machine and I’m glad everything works fine.
I’m so ready to bring out all the designs I have in my mind to life. I can’t wait to blend crochet with sewing and see how it goes. I can’t wait to do so many things with this machine. For now, this right here is going to be my best friend and we’re going to name this Mirabelle. Hehe.
Thank you for your time.
