Hello Needleworkers. Happy Sunday to you all, one of my popular customers just made a demand yesterday Saturday for knitted slippers which he will be coming to collect today been Sunday. Though I and my shoemaking team don’t actually work on Sundays I could remember what my mentor in knitting and crocheting of wears taught me about how to follow and maintain important customers.
For us to get these slippers ready, we have worked this night and that is why some of the pictures I shared here are dacked. Sorry for that.
My mentor taught me that despite any demand made by any of my important customers on any single day that I should always find a way to please them by doing their work for them because I may be the last hope for that particular customer based on his/her demand. He also made me understand that it is not good to disappoint any important customer because they can also be of help to me too. When he told me about something like this I doubted him but not until today.
Do you actually know what happened between me and this important customer yesterday? When he made a demand for female knitted slippers yesterday been Saturday, I never wanted to collect the job but I just did for the sake of business sake. I also collected the job because I actually believe in my shoemaking team. When I collected the job from him, all I did was make sure my team get to work, and finally, the slippers were ready.
Today been Sunday, my important customer called me on the phone that he will like to come and collect the slippers and I said okay. When he came to my house, he was very excited and told me that he was afraid I would have disappointed him just like other shoemakers and I told him that I and my team do not work that way! He laughed and told me that the slippers in question are going to be worn by her future wife whom he just proposed to her this morning. So they will be going for a Sunday outing.
Because of the excitement of this important customer, he asked me to follow him by entering his car and I did because am only for business and nothing more. He took me to a boutique and bought me a chain wristwatch. This is the beginning of our friendship. I love craftwork.
Materials I used for the slippers knitting are:
Yarn: This is one of the important materials used for the knitting and crocheting of footwear and other needleworks. Yarn is just like thread but more bigger and colorful.
Yarn pin or needle: this is an important tool for the knitting or crocheting of wears like slippers, shoes, bags, earrings, and many more in the area of needlework.
Sole: this material is very common when talking about shoemaking because the sole is actually the main pillar of footwear.
Without the sole of slippers, those slippers will never last more than three weeks but with a good sole for shoemaking. The slippers will last very well. The sole is the main support to any footwear.
Leather: in knitting or crocheting slippers, the leather is used to be knitted with yarn or crochet to determine the style of the slippers before gumming the leather to the sole.
Gum: in shoemaking, gum I very important because it plays an important role to help hold the sole and the leather for a very lasting period.
Making of the slippers:
Knowing the type of slippers.
Asking for the size.
Getting the materials ready for the slippers.
Measuring the leather.
Cutting off the leather with sharp scissors. Please whenever you want to cut your leather handle with care so that you will not get injured by the scissor.
Knitting of the slippers based on the style of the customer.
Sandpaper the sole and the knitted leather very well.
Apply your gum gently with a brush.
Place the sole and the leather under the sun for some hours.
Gum the sole and the knitted slippers gently.
Hit the slippers gently with a hammer.
The slippers are ready to be worn.
