Hello lovely needle workers, welcome to my blog. My favorite type of customers are those who give me the avenue to let my creative juice flow, I mean those who just say I want a dress, you can make it in any design you see fit.
I got one of those customers this week. He wanted to make a bikini and a beach cover-up for his girlfriend and he asked me to make what I thought would be nice, he also gave me the freedom to pick a color I fancied, and here is what I came up with.
First, I started with the bikini bra, and pant. I decided I was going to make a regular bra and pant because I did not want any design on the bikini to be too distracting for the cover-up dress.
So, I started working on the actual cover-up. I don’t know if I have said this before but I love working with shell stitches. They are interesting to work with and they fit the beach vibe. For the dress, I decided to go with a mixture of shell stitches and double crochet stitches.
For most of my projects, I use worsted-weight yarn. However, I wanted it to be light, so I went with fingering yarn instead. It is my first time working on a complete project with fingering yarn. While I love the feel of the project, I don’t think it is something I would do often.
It felt good but for a proper dress, I don’t think it would look good enough unless I use a small hook (1.5-2.5mm). You won’t catch me with those hook sizes though, I hate working with small hooks and I don’t think that feeling will change anytime soon.
So, back to the dress, she is a size small so the dress worked up fast which I love. Also, I would say working with a fingering yarn gave a bit more stretch to the project which is helpful than if I had gone with a worsted weight yarn.
Here is the final look at the project. She wanted it short so I made it 27 inches, to end immediately after the butt and I think she would like it. What do you think?
Thanks for stopping by❤
