Hello everyone, welcome to another beautiful Monday. About a week ago it was my friend’s birthday and one of our mutual friends wanted to make a crochet gown as a birthday gift for her. I am here today to share the dress she picked. I made a dress like this for myself long ago and she has been saying she wants the same dress. You can imagine how excited she was that I was finally going to make it for her.
For this dress, I used a 4mm crochet hook. I started with the lower part which is technically the skirt region. When I first made this dress for myself I started working from the thigh area and just worked my way upwards but I found that with that method it was more difficult to calculate where I needed to put the increases and decreases and so I decided to do them separately this time, working with the skirt first then adding the top area.
I made a chain that was equivalent to the waist measurement and did regular double crochets for the next 8 rows before I started my increases. I did a total of 4 increases on every other row for the next 10 rows. Mostly when doing increases I keep the increase going until I get the hip measurement.
What comes next will be a series of regular double crochet for some number of rows before I start my decrease to give it a pencil-like shape. For this dress, my decreases began on the 28th row, which consisted of 5 decreases on every other row and then I just worked regular double crochet rows till I got my desired skirt length.
Afterward, I started working on the upper body, I started with cinching the waist by alternating 2 single crochet together followed by 1 single crochet.
For the upper body, I did regular double crochets for 5 rows before I started increasing on both sides of every row since it’s open back wear. I continued that pattern till I got my desired length.
My friend was very pleased with the final result. I hope you like it too.
Thanks for stopping by❤
