#needleworkmonday
I had been posting is it posting or blogging. I dunno buh yeah I had been putting out updates about this skirt for the longest and I think that was my last post before I went ghost sort of.
Anyways there is a whole lot of backstory to this whole outfit so grab your popcorn now. Get on your couch. This is about to get really funny.
First things first, this skirt was supposed to be my outfit for uyo fashion week day 2. I had planned the whole thing.
The shoe I'll wear the top I'll make to match it. Every single thing was planned, big or small trust me.
First thing Is I started making this very early I had time to make all the alterations necessary if I wanted to and to be honest that's what I needed. I didn't want to rush it. Because last fashion week I finished my outfit tge morning of the event. Hehhehee.
See ehn don't judge these things happen to designers be it crochet or tailoring i've seen it for myself. It is definitely not a norm but it also isn't entirely impossible
Took my measurement for the hip so I could start making the skirt and I got to work.
Step 1:
I needed a total of 45 patches
9, 5 inches long square for each row
The main plan was to make it textured so I had to throw in different stitches.
I had 5 black flower patches and 5 white flower patches. Also had 3 black cable stitch patches and 3 white cable stitch patches.
15 black granny square patches and 14 white granny square patches.
In total 22 white patches and 23 black patches. 45 in all.
Step 2:
Here I had to decide the arrangement pattern. I drew out a rectangular box and I made it have 5 rows and 9 columns basically the measurement I used for my skirt so I could easily write that I wanted flower patches here or there or that I wanted the granny square here and I'll know my arrangement before even touching the actual work and it took a lot off my back.
Step 3:
This was joining the patches. Ahhhhhh I love patch work, trust me it's creative and all but I dread joining it or having to put them together in any way.
Like give me the patches I'll make them let someone else do the joining. Lol. But I still always do it. When this was done I connected all five rows together and my baby was done.
Step 4:
I chopped the excess yarn and my skirt was ready to wear but this is where it all went sidewards.
I honestly put in a whole lot of work when I was making it and when I finished I wore it and it didn't give me the feel I wanted.
It now Dawned on me that I was about to repeat whaT I wore for last years fashion week.
Same patch skirt, just different design and I was like naaaaaaa. Had to sketch me a new outfit but I'm still keeping my skirt. I love it so much.
Things I used to make this squares and patterns for the skirt :
4.0 mm hook for squares and cables
3.0mm hook for flower patches
Stitch markers
12 40g yarns [ all black ]
Scissors
Measurement tape
