My Most Daring Project So Far || Crochet Granny Square Skirt

in #hive-127911last month

Hello my fellow needle workers I hope you had a wonderful and productive day.

On today's episode of what did Doreen make its a low waist granny square skirt with criss Cross on both sides and before I start I just want to put it out there that this is the most daring color palette I have ever worked with.

Everyone here knows that granny squares are my thing. There's even this phrase I use at the shop “if you think two colors would never look good together use then to make a granny square and it'll come out eventually blended” and yeah its true.

I've worked with colors that have no budinbeing on the same outfit but as far as it is on a granny square it'll find a way to blend which Is just amusing.

For the longest time I have used the oddest colors in granny square [if that is even a word] but I have never used something this daring.

Almost every color in each square had absolutely no relations with the color before it or the colour after it. I was like yeah it's a granny square it's going to work out in the end.

So for context this is actually a client's order and I posted a video of ut and she sent a message saying she wanted the exact replica of the skirt. She is dark skinned so the white was definitely in her favor.

Anyways when I got to making this all I had in my head was “please come out like the inspo, please come out like the inspo” it sounds funny now but in that moment I meant every word I was murmuring.

I finished the squares for the front and did a duplicate buh with different arrangements for the back and then got to joining it.

I wanted it to be invisible so instead of the single crochet I usually use for join I used the top Stitch method instead and you can barely notice it 😅 which was the idea.

I would not lie the only thing I usually run from with granny squares is joining them. Especially when they are a lot.

Making them is fun and very very engaging but joining them is a lot of work and for those that work with squares you know what I mean.

The original design had the ropes for the loops as white but I wanted it to pop so I did mine in lilac I think that's the only alteration I did to the design and she absolutely loved it.

It was exciting, thrilling and scary to work om this and I'm glad I had to chance to push my “granny square compatibility one step further” but I still haven't figured out a name for this skirt so any suggestions will be appreciated.

Things I used to make this:
4.0 mm hook
Stitch markers
8 40g yarn
Measurement tape

Ps: these pictures belong to me and we’re taken with my mobile device.

Omg, it is daring 👑

Thankk youuuu

Oh yes, when matching colors, there is a formula that some artists use, if it matches in nature, it will match in almost anything.
It looks great on you.

Thank youu

This is so many colors in one piece, yet they all bond together.

😊😊😊😊 I'm happy it didn't flop
