Brocaade Beauty

Happy weekend dear Hivers, hope you are l having a fun weekend

It's 2 days to Grandma's birthday and today, I completed another beautiful and luxurious dress for Grandma, I shared in my last needlework post how important and blessed we are to have her in our lives.

This time, I made a dress using a brocade fabric, it is not often I get to work with this fabric as it is usually sold at a high cost, but we didn't mind as it is better to show we care for our elderly when they alive than during their burial, as we often see some people do, they neglect their old, but when they die, they organize big burial party which I find very annoying because it's all for show and not from a place of love or care, if they did care, they would be there when they were alive, showing all the care and love they needed.

In light of the forthcoming 70th birthday celebration, this dress would be her main dress for the occasion, so I have to give it all my best

It is quite easy to make and didn't require too much material just the brocade fabric and a plain aso-oke(traditional fabric) I designed it with.

Making process

  • I started by drafting the gown pattern, it's a kimono free(boubou) dress, the front has a v-neckline, while the back is rounded.

  • opening it up, I joined the front and back neckline by the shoulder

  • then using the plain fabric, I cut out a long strip that measured around the neckline, that with a width of 2.5 inches on fold

  • I sewed it around, then fitted it around my neck to make sure it was balanced

  • using the plain fabric, I cut out a kind of rectangular shape which I sewed beneath the V-neckline.

  • I also passed elastic around the sleeve hem.

  • Finally, I sewed the sides and pockets-grandma's favorite part
