There are those moments I feel like giving up due to life's challenges, those depressing moments, I feel like my back is up against the wall, the worst or strange part is I still smile at people around so it's hard for them to notice I'm going through a lot at that time, even sewing becomes tiring during these moments due to lack of inspiration. This project reminds me of that moment, and how I pull through difficult times.
A friend of mine brought her fabric, a vintage one, for me to decide and design an outfit for her, we couldn't decide on what to make of it, just like I was at that point in time, instead of giving up on ourselves, sometimes, it is best to seek for help. I wasn't motivated to come up with a style because I was down emotionally and mentally, so I told her to give me some time to get myself back together, surprisingly at that moment, she came up with a style inspiration while we were chit chatting and sharing our worrying thoughts, she isn't a fashion designer, and neither was I expecting her to come up with any style and was about to feel more down cast for not being able to come up with one, gladly, she came to my rescue.
This post may be about this outfit I made or maybe about me, I'm not sure yet, just letting my heart out, I was pleased by the style inspiration she came up with, and it also taught me something, to always ask for help or talk to someone in my down moments, even though we don't expect them to provide a solution, just speaking to someone can be liberating. I found someone to talk to, and I felt at ease with myself, my passion doesn't need to get stalled, instead, it inspires me, the joy I derive during each process and eagerly looking forward to the finished work strengthens me the more daily to keep pushing.
My project is a simple yet inspiring one, for this outfit, I decided to combine the vintage with a crepe fabric, highlighting the armhole of the armless jacket, and the band and hem of the skirt.
A simple basic bodice and dart is the pattern I chose into achieving this, while the skirt pattern is a straight skirt pattern, and at the end of it all, I am proud of what I achieved, my friend was also satisfied with outcome, from a depressing story, it became a happy and satisfying one.
