A couple of days ago I visited my parents at my hometown and I had the chance to look at my old wardrobe and find some old clothes that I haven't wear for years now. Also my boyfriend found some of his old denim jeans that don't fit him anymore and gave it to me to experiment with them. I am a supporter of upcycling clothes cause you can create so many new things while giving a new purpose to your old clothes.
So today's project is about a denim long skirt which comes from recycle of an old denim jeans. As I told you before I found those pair of jeans at my old wardrobe, I haven't see them for years now but at my teenage years I used to weat it a lot. It is quite baggy with those rips at the front side and I though it would be perfect to repurpose it into a denim skirt.
I was thinking about how can I make the skirt while keeping its seams but at the same time without looking weird. I started cutting right next to the inside side seams both sides until the cotch seam with my scissors.
I kept cutting from the crotch seam to the zipper and all the way up, same process like before. I could have stopped cutting at the point of the zipper I guess but the pants were a little loose at my waist so I wanted them to fit perfect. I pinned the zipper a little to the side the crotch up to the one pant leg in order to look more flat.
I changed some foots until I found the right one that works for thick fabrics like this, it was kinda hard at some points I can say. Also I didn't knew until now that there are threads especially for denim fabrics and my polyester thread was cutting all the time. Well after many stitches I managed to sew it but for the next denim project I will be more prepered for sure.
For the back side of the denim I followed the same steps with the front, cutting the inside seams almost all the way up and pinned the crotch at the top of one pant leg.
I sewed it many times as well cause as i told you I didn't have the right thread for denim so it was kinda hard.
Here is the result of my new denim long skirt:
To tell you the truth I never had a long denim skirt before don't know why, but I love this one. It has a great lenght and the excact long rip at the middle I wanted to. I enjoyed much this project cause we can say I "saved" a cloth from throwing it to rubbish and made a piece that I didn't have in my wardrobe so it is definitely a win.
Thank you for stopping by guys, I hope you enjoyed my project as much as I did.
Have a great day everyone!
