Me gustaría invitar a participar a @carolinacardoza @chacald.dcymt @dayadam @yetsimar
Greetings to all, today I write a very different publication, it is an initiative created by @medicenbecky to share 5 things that we do not like about our hobby, in this case for me needlework is more than a hobby, it is what I love the most. I am passionate about it and it makes me explore all my creativity, the best thing is that every day I learn new things even though I have been doing this for years, however, there are also things that I don't like and that I have to deal with, but despite the annoyance These things do not prevent me from continuing to exercise my passion. I would like to invite @carolinacardoza @chacald.dcymt @dayadam @yetsimar to participate
1 Poner precio a los trabajos de aguja / Price needlework
If I express myself with complete sincerity, for me each of my needlework is invaluable, however, I cannot afford to keep what I do at home (although that is almost always the case), I have almost no clients and that is why I am excited when someone writes to me to make a commission, but it bothers me a lot to put a price on my work because my country is in crisis, people have other priorities and if I really ask for a fair price for my work, most people consider that it is expensive and do not write again, I try to standardize the prices as much as possible, because the prices are variable, in a work of crochet art not only the size matters to give a price, but also the number of color changes and the details , because a project that involves many color changes as well as many accessories will take much more time to prepare, on the other hand the quantity of material is not what is important but the quality, that is, in my case the price is fair because I use a good material, but even though in theory the material may be little, the manufacturing time is the determining factor, so in needlework, a price is not set for the amount of material, a price is set for the work of our hands. and our hours spent. So it's always been a bit of a pain for me to explain to a client that they have to tell me the specifics of the commission before I can give them a price.
2 El tiempo que consume / The time it consumes
I love crocheting, two needles or macramé, I like it so much that sometimes I even dream of new designs or projects, I am very excited when someone asks me for a quote for a project, but there is something that bothers me a little and sometimes frustrates me, this It is the time that needlework consumes, I have a lot of experience and that makes me fast but even with all my speed I cannot exceed my human limits, that is, it is logical that making a complex amigurumi takes me 8 days working at least 6 hours a day, no matter how hard I try I can't change the facts, needlework takes time, but when I see that someone can make an illustration in one day, I even have a friend who makes paintings and portraits in just one day, I think that It's annoying that doing needlework takes so much time and I can't make many amigurumi or macrame projects in a short time.
3 Irregularidades del material de trabajo / Work material irregularities
I don't know if this happens in other countries, but in my country it is very difficult to find threads or knitting yarns that are of the same thickness, that is, they do not comply with standard measurements, even if I buy the same brand and supposedly the same thickness of thread, without They are a different color, they have a different thickness, I am talking about minimal differences that for someone with little experience are imperceptible, but they are not for me, for example, I always buy 1mm acrylic thread from the same brand, but when working with I notice that there are differences in the thickness of the thread that are more evident when a color change is made in macrame or when I try to replicate one of my own crochet patterns but in another color, using the same needle or thread tension, the result is different, that bothers me a lot. Furthermore, if I have a pattern for a macrame bracelet that has 74 rows, if I make it with a different color I have to make more or sometimes fewer rows to be able to obtain the same centimeters of length in both, honestly that exasperates me.
4 Nudos inesperados / Unexpected knots
For a weaving techniques worker, it is terrible when the threads get tangled, that is why I always try to keep order in my balls to prevent this from happening, however, there is something that happens from time to time that bothers me a lot, it is when the yarn comes with an unexpected knot somewhere 🫠, this I suppose is normal, that is, the factories at some point in making the balls must cut and add yarn, that's why there are knots but how big are the chances? to find one in the ball of yarn you bought? I have no idea but it is really annoying to find a knot in the middle of the thread that has not been made by ourselves when weaving 🤣
5 El desgaste físico / The physical wear and tear
Is there anyone here who will sponsor me for ibuprofen? 🤭 Seriously, the physical wear and tear that needlework causes on me is very hard, one of my eyes is very blind and crocheting without natural light has become almost impossible for me, on the other hand my joint and back pain bothers me. They make me feel like a premature old woman 😄 but I tell you something, I don't want to stop making my art with threads and needles, it is my passion even though the pain and physical conditions bother me so much. This is my life and I want to continue doing what I like, needlework 🥰
