Hi, Hive friends! This is my first time submitting an article to the NeedleWorkMonday community. I got excited when I received my parcel from Temu this Monday morning, which I ordered in the last week of December. I told myself this was the Christmas gift I would receive in the New Year, and here it is! Tadaah!
What did I buy at Temu?
- A complete crochet kit for beginners with a Flamingo design bag
- Additional 2 yarns of yellow and pink colors
- A box of Granny Square card deck
Checking the content inside the Flamingo bag
- 5 colors of yarn
- Big crochet hooks
- Small crochet hooks
- other accessories I am not familiar with
To be honest, this is the first time I have bought a complete crochet kit because back in Cebu, I only had 3.5mm and 1.0mm crochet hooks from my mother. I used my mom's yarn to practice and bought a few bulky yarns to create bags.
What's inside the Granny Square box?
- The card deck of various designs
- a little instruction guidebook
Projects I've been planning
- A cross-body bag for my phone
- A little bag for my daughter
I will start with a beginner design from the Granny Square box and it means, I need to buy more balls of yarn in the future. Hahahaha! OMG, I am so excited. I hope my fingers still remember how to crochet.
I am a left-handed crocheter
Yes, I am proud to be a left-handed person and I learned to crochet from my beloved late mother who was right-handed. I learned to crochet when I was a high school student, about 12 or 13 years old during the summer. It was challenging to learn because my mother was right-handed and I had to mirror her in order to learn. I cried buckets, what an exaggeration. But my mother laughed at me and told me to calm down. I was eager to learn and finally, I made it.
In memory of my mother
Getting back to this hobby in memory of my mother. I stopped doing this hobby when I was busy working with my online job and I was traveling from 2013 to 2019. As a mom, I want to reconnect with my mother (spiritually) through this hobby and I will show my kids my creative side. I already showed them my painting skills and they love to paint with me.
Just seeing different colors of yarn is making me happy already. What more if of starting and finishing one granny square? That's a little achievement already that I will celebrate.
Any suggestions about crocheting? Please send links of crochet tutorials that I can follow.
