Blessed day my dear needleworkers, it is a pleasure to share with you again in a new Needlework Monday. As I told you in my previous posts, I am happy to be back to knitting, especially because I am making small gifts for my relatives in Venezuela.
This time it was the turn of my two beautiful nieces Camila and Aranza. I must say that I am very fortunate to have many nieces and nephews. Children always transmit that special energy that makes us be active and attentive.
I love to knit things for my nieces and nephews, among the things I have knitted for them are: amigurumis, bags, purses, purses, pencil cases, tops, dresses and doll clothes.
My project today are some bags to carry the water bottle to school to give to my beautiful nieces. In Venezuela it is very common for children to carry a bottle of water to stay hydrated during school hours.
The bottle, cooler or tomatodo, as they call it here in Peru, is an indispensable element to take to school, especially with the current pandemic situation, where we must reinforce sanitary measures with our children. Ideally, each child should bring his or her own container of water from home and not share it to avoid contagion.
That's why I thought of knitting them a nice bag where they can carry their water containers in a more comfortable and practical way. The knitting is very simple and you can use any stitch you prefer, the ideal is to make it to the exact size of the container, that's why you should measure it as you knit it.
- Tijeras
- Aguja de tejer #3
- Thick nylon thread in two different colors.
- Scissors
- Knitting needle #3
The procedure to make these bags is really very simple. You start by knitting 12 high stitches in a magic ring, in the second round you make an extension by knitting two high stitches in each high stitch of the previous round. Everything will depend on the size of the container, in my case I worked with two different sizes, since one of my nieces is only 3 years old, so I chose a smaller container for her.
The third row I knit in low stitches in cream color.
For row number 4 I knitted a fuchsia colored double crochet and for row number 5 I started with an "X" stitch. I like this stitch because the fabric is loose and you can see through it.
In the following rows, the fuchsia "X" stitch is interspersed with a row of cream coloured single crochet.
I made this project without a pattern, which is how I like to knit, as it gives me the freedom to improvise and mix different stitches.
I continued to play with the yarn and stitches while having a nice conversation with my mother, until I got the length of each package.
The final step is to weave the handles of the bags. In this case, I made one with a short handle, which is the larger container. And for the smaller container I knitted a longer handle like that of a purse. For both cases I knitted the strips with a base of 4 high stitches and knitted several rounds until I obtained the desired length for each strip.
Saludos y bendiciones.
In this simple way I was able to make these two beautiful bags to send to my dear nieces, I am very sure they will love the color I chose since they both love the color fuchsia. I really enjoyed knitting this little project, knitting again has been very rewarding and relaxing, I hope to continue sharing my knitting with you.
I hope these ideas are useful and to your liking. Until a future publication. Greetings and blessings.
