I’ve always had a thing for cutting and upcycling things. When I was younger, I looked forward to craft and home-economics classes because we got to do so many fun things that involved crafting.
I loved it when they assigned projects that involved simple DIYs. I loved things like that to the extent that I would sneakily use my mom’s phone to watch simple cloth and cardboard DIYs on youtube and facebook. And you know what? I always used my clothes at home to practice when my mom wasn’t around.
So when she comes back and sees it (if whatever I did didn’t turn out well), she’ll go like ‘Did you know its money I used to buy this cloth that you spoilt like this’. It got to a point that she had to start hiding all the scissors and cutters we had at home before leaving. Now that I’m older, I think I’m back to my cutting era. I’ll just not go back to cutting things blindly like I did back then.
Siempre he tenido algo para cortar y mejorar las cosas. Cuando era más joven, esperaba clases de artesanía y economía doméstica porque teníamos que hacer tantas cosas divertidas que implicaban la elaboración.
Me encantó cuando asignaron proyectos que involucraban a DIYs simples. Me encantaron cosas así en la medida en que usaría furtivamente el teléfono de mi mamá para ver telas simples y DIYs de cartón en youtube y facebook. ¿Y sabes que soy qué? Siempre usé mi ropa en casa para practicar cuando mi mamá no estaba cerca.
Entonces, cuando regrese y lo vea (si lo que hice no resultó bien), ella irá como '¿Sabías que es dinero que solía comprar esta tela que echaste a perder así? Llegó a un punto que tenía que empezar a esconder todas las tijeras y cortadores que teníamos en casa antes de irse. Ahora que soy mayor, creo que he vuelto a mi era de corte. Simplemente no volveré a cortar las cosas ciegamente como lo hice en ese entonces.
I’ve had this jean trouser at home that I got tired of wearing. So, while I was going through the clothes I had stored away, clothes I didn’t think I’d be wearing again, I came across this jean. I looked at it and thought of what to do with it instead of just discarding it like that. I went on pinterest and found out I could use part of the legs to make a corset. The idea seemed really appealing to me. So I decided to make a jean corset with the trouser.
Items I used:
A little bit stretchy jean material
An open and close zip/fastener
*Thread
*Needle
- Sewing machine
He tenido este pantalón de jean en casa que me cansé de usar. Entonces, mientras pasaba por la ropa que había guardado, la ropa que no pensé que volvería a usar, me encontré con este jean. Lo miré y pensé en qué hacer con él en lugar de simplemente descartarlo así. Fui a pinterest y descubrí que podía usar parte de las piernas para hacer un corsé. La idea me pareció realmente atractiva. Así que decidí hacer un corsé de jean con el pantalón.

First, I cut out the section I needed from the jean and I loosed one side of each leg. I sewed them together and hemmed the egdes.
Primero, corté la sección que necesitaba del jean y perdí un lado de cada pierna. Los cosí juntos y hemmed los egdes.
You guys, I was really scared here and kept praying that it comes out well. I also realized that I forgot to use the same colour of thread as the fabric. I used brown instead of blue. But I couldn’t start loosing cause I was too far gone. So, I just believed it would add to the aesthetic😂. And I think it did, although the thread line was barely visible.
I then sewed the zip. I didn’t know sewing a zip could be such a hassle. I was told I had to follow the line closest to the two rows of teeth and doing that wasn’t so easy. But I succeeded and was able to do it.
Ustedes, yo estaba muy asustado aquí y seguí rezando para que saliera bien. También me di cuenta de que olvidé usar el mismo color de hilo que la tela. Usé marrón en lugar de azul. Pero no podía empezar a perder porque estaba demasiado lejos. Entonces, creí que se agregaría a la estética. Y creo que sí, aunque la línea de hilo apenas era visible.
Luego cosí la cremallera. No sabía que coser una cremallera podría ser una molestia. Me dijeron que tenía que seguir la línea más cercana a las dos filas de dientes y hacer eso no fue tan fácil. Pero lo logré y pude hacerlo.
You guys, I was so happy with how it turned out. It was so pretty that I had to take pictures with it.
I now have a jean corset I made myself (Squeals in happiness).
Luckily, I had this jean trouser of the same shade so I paired it with the corset and the shirt. The corset can be worn on its own as a top and paired with a jean. It could also be worn on a shirt like I did above.
So now, I’ve got the perfect denim outfit for a denim party. The outfit is ready. The party is what’s left.

Ahora tengo un corsé de jean que me hice (Squeals in happiness).
Afortunadamente, tenía este pantalón de jean de la misma sombra, así que lo emparejé con el corsé y la camisa. El corsé se puede usar por sí solo como un top y emparejado con un jean. También se podría usar en una camisa como lo hice anteriormente.
Así que ahora, tengo el atuendo de mezclilla perfecto para una fiesta de mezclilla. El atuendo está listo. La fiesta es lo que queda.
