✦ The most important thing for me is to understand the garment before modifying it ✦
✦ The dress is small even though the size is big! ✦
✦ I wasn't sure I could fix it because the cut was too straight ✦
✦ In total I made 3 modifications to the sides and 6 on the back clamps ✦
✦ It was very difficult to connect the alterations with the original seams, at first it looked very bad and wrinkled, I even thought I had damaged the dress ✦
✦ But I finally figured out what to do and managed to solve those weird wrinkles! ✦
✦ The back was quite difficult to fit because my body doesn't have straight lines and I wanted the dress to fit me but not too tight ✦
🇺🇸 ~ Last weekend a very beautiful friend gave me this dress! The color is super pigmented, a kind of "neon fuchsia" that looks nothing like the clothes that dominate my closet.
It was an unexpected gift that I was overjoyed with because I feel like I'm entering my fashionista era and I have an urge to experiment with clothes, especially styling casual looks that stand out from the crowd.
But there was a little problem, the dress it's a straight cut plus size which looks like a very baggy dress on me, it didn't look good on me at all.
So I decided to sit down with Soul to study how it was made and understand how I could modify it without taking it apart or cutting it too much.
I did some sketches and pin tests and ended up altering 4 of the main seams, although the dress has 6 in total, but I think altering the main seams under the bust would have been too much.
I mean, I wanted something fitted but not lined.
This afternoon of dress alterations is also a mini exercise in self-love. You know, when you have lots of curves and prefer loose-fitting clothes that hide them a bit and avoid unwanted attention, but now you want to allow yourself to wear clothes that show them but don't expose skin.
I know the color of the dress is super weird, but I think I can balance it well with some light sneakers and a printed haori, I have to go fabric shopping next week and I am really excited!
Tell me what you think in the comments o//u//o I am very happy with the result and super grateful to my friend for the quirky and tailored gift 🤌 💞
