✨🏳️ THE INSPIRATION 🏳️✨
It feels good if you are making things made of different materials such as recycled materials where you can make something that you never thought would turn out to be good. Because I like to make crafts made from different things such as legumes, egg shells, dry leaves and others that can be used in arts. Because of my passion to do different things, my friends in the women's group thought I was the one who made our recycled costume in pageant, I didn't refuse because I could also boost my creative thinking skills when it comes to crafts.
This recycled costume was inspired by the national costume of Miss Universe Philippines 2022, Rabiya Mateo, when she competed at the Miss Universe 2022. So this is what I did even though I knew we would have a hard time developing this costume. The color of the Philippine flag symbolizes so much, so this is what I want to do and I believe I can succeed even though I am very busy studying as a college student. But even though I was so busy, I still did my best to create what we will represent in an event because they believe in me that I can do it so their trust can’t be ruined and I will prove to myself that I can do it.
✂📦 MATERIALS 📦✂
Before I made the costume, we first saved up to buy materials and looked outside for recycled materials that can only be found in trash cans or garbage. Some of we materials were very dirty but we washed them and when something was missing we bought from the store so that we complete our needs. We spent a lot on the costume especially the spray paints which were very expensive. We first gathered materials before we started making costume so that our process cannot be interrupt.
Our materials are Glue gun, used papers which I used in school before like quizzes, activities and exams, stick glue, boxes, Scissors, Disposable spoon, Fork, Silk, Spray paint, wire for skirt and soft drink straws. The spray paint was so expensive but with other things, we only picked it up and asked for it at events like Fork and Spoon. All of this must be complete because it will be the instrument to make a good and nice costume.
👑THE PROCESS OF CROWN AND WINGSʚɞ
In making the Sun Crown, I didn't have a hard time because it was very easy and the crown was made of a hard box and I put a wire inside it to make it harder and not bend when worn. I also added a patterned headband so that our candidate can wear it easily. I also added beeds to make it sparkle and foiled it to make the sun crown sparkle. What I did was just that simple, I also added plain yellow using spray paint that symbolizes the sun of the Philippine flag so that the crown wouldn't be over design and my friends liked the result of the sun crown that I made.
When it came to the Wing, I just made the shape of the wing and measured it and I was happy with myself because I did it right and beautiful. To make the wings even more stable, I put a lot of wire on it to hold the cardboard tighter and prevent it from falling. To make the wing, I just put boxes where I cut it like a leaf that I will put one by one using glue to make it look like a wing. In coloring the wing, I used spray paint with color red, and color blue where those colors are included in the flag of the Philippines. I can't forget the three stars of the Flag so I also put side by side and the other one for the middle of the top. I also put a logo on the back of the wing to make it more visible that it symbolizes our Women's Association. I made this logo myself, To hold the box even tighter, I also put a string on the back to make it more stable.
👗THE PROCESS OF TOP👗
This is the most important part, it is the top because I can see it on the candidate's body, so I beautified it and did my best to make it more beautiful. I only take one silk to be my pattern to achieve the result I want. At the top, my materials are straw and box where I made small stars using straw and glued them together to cover the silk pattern. I colored it half red, and half blue as the color of the flag. I also made the top filipiniana so that it symbolizes the filipiniana of a woman who lives in the Philippines. I put a star in the middle using the box because this star is on the flag of the Philippines and I will not forget to put it.
💃🏻THE PROCESS OF SKIRT💃🏻
I had the most difficulty with the skirt because I had different decisions about what design I would put and what materials I would put in it so that we could keep the cost down. I thought that these are recycled materials so why not we use the used papers when I was still in high school. When I tried to put it on, I didn't want to because it made me look ugly, but when all the paper was put on, I started looking at the skirt better. I just made it like a fan where I glued it together using a glue gun and stick glue. I added a pattern to make it easier to make and it has a flare like a gown. I also colored it half red and half blue to make it look like the flag of the Philippines.
💞FITTING TIME💞
I had to measure it on the candidate just so I could adjust the costume she would use. I also check if it is durable if it will be worn. I'm happy because it fits perfectly. It's nice to think that he wore my work that I really did my best so that we have a representative costume.
📅THE KABSAT EVENT|BACKSTAGE📅
When we were at the event, I was nervous because the work of our opponents who will also join the candidate was also very nice and unique but I told myself that I did my best. There were so many people in those days that I was nervous in case something went wrong but thankful nothing bad happened.
✔️THE RESULT✔️🎭
It's heartwarming that she performing in the stage about my work and my design, especially my sister perform about that costume. If you can see, my work is really beautiful and it shines even though it happened at night. These costumes symbolize patriotism, resilience, and hope. The color of the costume matches the color of the Philippine flag which we devote ourselves for being a Filipino. The color red symbolizes the heroism of every modern hero of the New Generation. The color blue symbolizes peace which we always wanted to have. And the yellow gives us the vibes of shining in our darkest hours which means hope for all of us. And the wings give you freedom to do things that can help you where you wanted to be, a place where you will be successful someday.
A COSTUME TO BE REMEMBERED!
