Se acercaba el día de los enamorados y yo tenía ganas de lucir una pulsera con motivo de corazón para celebrarlo.
También tenía bastante tiempo sin tejer una pulsera que es algo que me gusta mucho hacer, y para retomar me pareció un buen proyecto. En esta ocasión quería probar como quedaban haciéndola con doble hilo, pues también tenía ganas de hacer un taller para enseñar a las personas a hacerlas y usando doble hilo se tejen un poco más rápido.
Es por eso que un día tomé los hilos, mi base de madera y me puse manos a la obra. Quise documentar parte del proceso para compartirlo con ustedes, así que les mostraré el paso a paso. En esta ocasión escogí los colores lila y negro.

Valentine's Day was approaching and I wanted to wear a bracelet with a heart motif to celebrate it.
I also had a long time without weaving a bracelet, which is something I really like to do, and it seemed like a good project to start again. This time I wanted to try how it would look making it with double thread, because I also wanted to do a workshop to teach people how to make them and using double thread they weave a bit faster.
That's why one day I took the yarns, my wooden base and got down to work. I wanted to document part of the process to share it with you, so I will show you step by step. This time I chose the colours lilac and black.
El patrón que estuve siguiendo fue este, la verdad es bastante sencillo de hacer y cuenta con pocos pasos.
Los primero que hice fue cortar los hilos, para los cuales usé unos 160 cm de largo para cada uno. Recuerden que los corté dobles, es decir para cada color contaba con dos hilos.
Luego hice un pequeño nudo en el extremo y los acomodé según el sentido que tenían en el patrón.
Así comencé a tejer uno a uno los nudos de la primera fila para asegurar el diseño.
The pattern I was following was this one, it's quite simple to make and has very few steps.
The first thing I did was to cut the yarns, for which I used about 160 cm long for each one. Remember that I cut them double, that is to say, for each colour I had two threads.
Then I tied a small knot at the end and arranged them according to the direction they had in the pattern.
So I started to weave one by one the knots of the first row to secure the design.
En un principio el diseño no se aprecia para nada, pero una vez logramos hacer el primer segmento completo se puede apreciar la forma de corazón, lo cual es sumamente satisfactorio.
Con esto diseño es bueno escoger dos colores que hagan bastante contraste para que así se pueda apreciar bien la forma de corazón entre todos los nudos.
At the beginning the design is not visible at all, but once we manage to make the first complete segment, the heart shape can be seen, which is very satisfying.
With this design it is good to choose two contrasting colours so that the heart shape between all the knots is clearly visible.
Así fui repitiendo el patrón hasta que alcanzó el tamaño de mi muñeca. La cantidad varía según la medida que queremos darle a la pulsera.
Una que yo suelo seguir como medida estándar es lograr un largo de 12 cm, que no es muy pequeño ni muy largo y con el largo de los extremos nos ayudamos a hacer los ajustes de ser necesario.
I repeated the pattern until it reached the size of my wrist. The amount varies according to the size we want to give to the bracelet.
One that I usually follow as a standard measurement is to achieve a length of 12 cm, which is neither too small nor too long, and the length of the ends helps us to make adjustments if necessary.
Al llegar al largo ideal, hice un nudo final y luego con los hilos que sobraron en ese extremo lo que hice fue hacer dos trenzas que ayudarían a ajustarla.
When I reached the ideal length, I tied a final knot and then with the threads that were left over at that end I made two braids that would help to adjust it.
Tejer una pulsera en este estilo puede demorar de una a dos horas dependiendo la complejidad que tenga el diseño.
Por eso siempre que vean a alguien vendiéndolas valoren mucho su trabajo pues no saben todo el tiempo que esa persona le dedicó a esa pulsera.
Yo la verdad disfruto mucho hacerlas, aunque no es algo que suelen usar mucho las personas hoy en día, es algo que no deja de gustar y de vez en cuando te topas con alguien que tiene una colgada en su muñeca. Bueno, al menos eso es lo que suele pasar en este lado del país, se que más hacia el centro es algo más común de ver.

Weaving a bracelet in this style can take from one to two hours depending on the complexity of the design.

I really enjoy making them, although it's not something that people use a lot nowadays, it's something that never ceases to please and every now and then you run into someone who has one hanging on their wrist. Well, at least that's what usually happens on this side of the country, I know that more towards the centre it's something more common to see.
