Greetings Hive
This project started with a R200 (Around $10) toy guitar. There is some serious backstory here too, but that is something for the future. All in all, it was a huge project and this will probably be a long post, so here goes.
Endless Adventures in Sanding
I somehow never took any photos of it before the sanding, the paint job and everything else was pretty horrible though.
Plastic neck and fretboard but we'll get to that later..
So much sanding, all by hand. What a pain.
Smoothing out the ugly glue bits and things was not very easy but really made a difference in the final thing.
This just would not do! Not at all. MORE sanding was needed.
The right tools and some expert advice made the job easy.
Time for painting, my favourite part. I had no idea what I wanted to do for the paint job, so I just went for it.
A coat of white just makes sense, right?
This seemed like a good idea at first, then I didn't like it at all. So I tried something else.
The metallic black base looked pretty cool but it just wasn't enough for me, I wanted something more interesting.
Brushing over some of the dark pink colour. I liked it more but it still didn't look quite right.
Adding more metallic black over the top made it start to look the way I wanted it to.
Dry brushing some white over everything really just made it all come together in a pretty cool way.
Adding some decorations to the front, my daughter likes moons and this is my kind of vibe too.
The back also needed something. More moons, stars and cats seemed like a good idea. Mixed up some glitter and paint for the sparkly effect.
The red and black neck and fretboard just didn't work with the look of the thing, so after some more sanding, I painted it and added some more moons. Little details matter.
Some varnish, which actually didn't turn out too nicely due to it being the kind you paint on. Spray varnish would have definitely been the way to go here.
These also needed something...
After days of waiting for the varnish to dry....some cool looking scruffy hand drawn starts and assembling everything again.
A bit of tuning. Of course I snapped a string so there will be no video of it actually being played until I can someday afford new strings. (Won't be soon, it's the noodle life for me right now 🤣)
The final thing, front and back. I call her 'Little Ghost'
Getting nice photos wasn't too easy, hopefully the video shows things better.
Well that's it for now, thanks for reading!
Till next time!
