This Is How Easy To Make Gesso and Canvas Panel

Handmade Mini Canvas Panel.gif

Hello! How are you? My goal in life is to do every DIY I dream of making. One of them is to make canvas. But wait, it is not just canvas, it is a mini canvas panel. My crafting skills are still at the beginner level. As I experience something, I can do more complicated crafting in the future.

My hobby lately is recycling, like cardboard, that I have been ignoring before now that thing makes me happy to take it with me and think about how I can reuse it. Now I know how it feels when my mom always recycles any box she can touch.

There was this time when I saw all the cardboard we used for groceries she asked me why there were so many "cardboard and paper folders inside my room" hehe I explained to her that I used it for my crafts things.

Cardboard and paper folders are a life.

But before I can make a handmade canvas panel I need to make a gesso first, yes even a gesso I make a DIY of it.

All the Materials:

Lets Make Gesso:

I pour glue into a small container I use 30 ml.

2.jpg

I pour the glue into a bigger plastic container 120 ml.

3.jpg

I add the talc the same as the glue 30 ml.

4.jpg

Then I add the talc to the bigger plastic container.

5.jpg

Using the stick I mix the glue and talc until it combine.

6.jpg

I spray water on the mixture little by little.

7.jpg

Mix the mixture again.

9.jpg

After the glue and talc are well mixed I add any white acrylic.

Mix again until well combined.

Gesso is ready to be used.

Lets Make Canvas Panel:

1.jpg

I prepare the chipboard (3x3") on the cutting mat.

2.jpg

Using the stick I evenly coat the chipboard with glue.

3.jpg

With the glue part, I press the glue chipboard on the canvas fabric.

4.jpg

Using the bone folder, I press the fabric to make the glue stick more to the fabric.

5.jpg

I cut the excess fabric evenly using the metal ruler and cutter.

6.jpg

I glue the left and right of the canvas.

7.jpg

Using the bone folder I press the fabric on the chipboard.

8.jpg

I cut this part of the canvas before gluing the top and bottom fabric.

9.jpg

This is what it looks like.

11.jpg

I repeat the same process.

12.jpg
13.jpg

I glue the last part of the fabric.

16.jpg

This is what it looks like. I let it dry for a couple of hours.

Gesso Time:

18.jpg

Time to coat the canvas with gesso.

19.jpg

I put enough gesso on the canvas.

20.jpg

It is time to use the plastic scraper.

21.jpg

22.jpg

I evenly coat the canvas with gesso using the scraper, if their any excess gesso I can still use the sides and back of the canvas fabric. Let it dry for hours.

23.jpg

They are ready for the final process.

25.jpg

I evenly coated the thick paper with glue.

26.jpg

I make sure I put enough like this.

27.jpg

Make sure to evenly place the glued paper on the back of the canvas.

28.jpg

I use the bone folder to flatten the paper and to make sure the paper is glued to the canvas.

29.jpg

This is what it looks like.

30.jpg

After drying, I use sandpaper to file the canvas.
