Happy Saturday! ✨
The last announcement revealed two additional creatures in the mix! 😍 Naara and Shinaara.
I also thought that Naara was inspired by Bambi coz I cannot think of any deer character, haha. 😆 But then someone already answered and was not it. And so, I remembered my trip to Nara Park and the name gave it away. Also, the pink flowers look like sakura and so, I had the gut feel that it was inspired by anime or Japan.
I really like the design and the creatures' ability! 😊
Art Process
Start with the sketch of the two characters in a landscape orientation. I wanted a tight shot that somewhat blurring the background. Looking for a reference on the internet made it easier to proportionate the head of the deer vs the healer. I then used a different brush for the lineart this time. I used a solid pen with a fade on the edge.
Next, I chose a darker shade of the original base color since it will be against the light source. On clipped layers, I started to apply the shadows in multiply mode. here, I also added details like the blush and the eye shine of Shinaara.
To set the light, I started applying a glow effect on the hair and on to the flowers. I intensified it more by using a hard airbrush and blurring some edges. I used a combination of white, yellow, and orange, and blended them together to make it seamless.
Final Art
In the final stage, I just randomly drew some trees in the background and blurring them out. I used a soft airbrush for the I then added some falling Sakura petals just to match the flowers on their head.
I had fun making this art! 💚✨
