Hello zingers!
How is everyone doing? I hope you’re all well!
As for me, I just returned from a long break after being sick, followed by a vacation. That's why I haven't posted any fan art since last month. Now that I'm fully recovered and have a new tablet, I plan to focus on digital art for the rest of the remaining year.
Has everyone seen the new characters released in holozing on discord? If so, can we talk about how amazing the artist is for creating these beautiful characters? I don't know the names of each character, but all I can think of is that they are alternate versions of the main characters. reason why I named the title other version 😅 Anyway, now that I'm back, I plan to create fan art of them all, first in a chibi style and then possibly in my own style after.
DRAWING PROCESS
I had a hard time deciding on the characters expression or gesture but after some random sketching, I found a form that I actually liked, so I decided to go with it.
I've always wanted to draw cinella eversince it was released and that's why I paired cinella with this female light healer character, maybe I'll do the evolve version of cinella next time.
I don't have any reference of the full body of female light healer so I cut the waist line the same as the original drawing of it, and I want this drawing to be focused on her and with the zing creatures.
So, it took me three days to finish this 😭 other than getting used to my new drawing tablet, I actually had fun figuring out how the artist did the hair color for this character. While working on it, I learned a bunch of new layer functions like add, add glow, darken and highlight. I also discovered the crayon brush that's used in the hair, which was super fun to use! I’m not sure if the artist used the same brush, but the crayon option felt the closest, so that’s what I went with.
While messing around in csp, I realized that using a drawing tablet is way more convenient and enjoyable than a pen tablet. It felt like I was actually painting on a canvas ~ Plus, I can sketch faster and have better control over my lines too. best decision ever!
You know I'm not great at backgrounds, right? I experimented with the free assets provided by CSP to see if they would complement my character. However, a part of me feels like using these backgrounds doesn't really make my character stand out. But I decided to share it anyway since I already saved it as a JPEG, and it would be a waste not to, right? 🤣
I chose a very light mint green for the background, aiming to contrast with Cinella's color so both of them and female light healer would stand out and be the focus.
I'm excited to work on the other characters after this ~ I feel like if I made all of them chibi, I can do a 4 panel comics of them out of fun hahaha
