What's Warsaken
Warsaken is a military themed Tabletop Card Game (TCG) released in the WAX blockchain by Eclectic Nerds, LLC. Brandon, its founder, first came up with the idea of Warsaken as a way to connect with his US Armed Forces veteran father, who would enjoy playing tabletop games but wasn't much accustomed to gaming platforms that were proliferating during the 1990s and 2000s.
Launched in 2022, the first game set "Genesis of Conflict" boasts 268 distinct cards. Each of those cards comes with different rarity variations, ranging from common to Blood Foil G-Force / Infinite Leaders that are only minted once! Cards are subdivided by type and rank. The types include; the leader, the territories, the forces, the buildings, the intel, the weather, and weapons of mass destruction. The game is so detail rich that each leader has its own backstory and lore.
Loot is the in-game token. Its maximum supply is 10 trillion coins. Users can claim loot daily by holding Warsaken NFTs. The daily loot payout depends on the rank of each user. You'll need to hold at least one premium NFT in order to be eligible to claim $LOOT. The more Warsaken NFTs you hold, the higher the XP you'll get, which allows you to level up your ranks and receive better payouts.
Loot has another utility. It can be used in the Warsaken store to buy Loot packs that contain unique NFT cards. No, you won't be able to buy Loot packs with WAX tokens like with the Premium, Elite, and Booster packs. Therefore, you'll either need to save your daily loot rewards or buy Loot in the open market through the Alcor DEX.
This is an ingenious buyback mechanism devised by the Warsaken team that increases the interest of players to HODL their loot, and offsets the sell pressure from the daily payouts.
Furthermore, when holding loot you can put it to use in LP farming in either Alcor, TacoSwap, or Defibox. The last two, in addition to a share of the swap fees, provide additional rewards for those who stake their loot in LP farms on their platforms.
Last, the Warsaken team, is exploring other use cases for loot that might be added in the future. One new feature that will be added is the "Wheel of Fortune". Wheel spins will be purchasable with Loot coins. Players will be able to win exclusive Warsaken music tunes, taunts, emotes, battle titles, die skins, card sleeves, and battle mats.
The Game modes
Warsaken has three distinct game modes; Blitz, Standard, and Cabal. Each Warsaken deck has 65 cards. The number may seem high for a new user. In reality it is not. Common cards are pretty cheap (less than 1 WAX) in the secondary market and the team always holds events giving away cards, packs, and whole decks for free.
The Blitz Beta mode was the first to be released in 2022. It is a fast paced 1v1 mode where the goal is to eliminate your opponent's leader. Before you can take out the enemy leader, you'll need first to take out their territories, or deck. Being a fast paced mode as the name suggests, it allows for players to devise different, and sometimes radical strategies to take their opponent by surprise. Since Blitz is currently in Beta mode, new features will be added that will significantly improve the gameplay experience.
To play Blitz, you first need to prepare your 65 card deck with 1 Leader, 4 territories, and 3+ copies of each other card you plan to utilize in your game. A dice roll dictates the number of cards you can draw from your deck to your hand, and the number of actions you can take during your round. A game ends when your or your opponent's leader has been defeated.
You can find opponents to match up either by starting your own match and sending your unique code to your friends to join or by simply joining other players matches. You'll find lots of players sharing match codes and looking for opponents in the Strategy channel of the Warsaken Discord server.
The Standard mode is the most complex and intense Warsaken mode. It utilizes different game mechanics making it suitable for more advanced players. The total number of cards in your deck is again 65, and the main goal is to take out the enemy leader. The rules, set up, and gameplay are different from Blitz. This mode is ideal for seasoned players who enjoy a deep dive in the military strategy of the game.
The Cabal mode is a single player mode where a player completes different missions by playing against the mode. This mode is good for deck testing, and experimenting with different card combinations.
The Warsaken Community
One of the most important aspects when playing Warsaken is the sense of community. That's made evident from the moment someone joins their Discord server. Boasting 17 thousand members and a plethora of different channels, there will always be someone online to greet and smoothen the onboarding process of new players.
Within the server you'll find everything, from giveaway and free stuff channels, to card trading channels, to match making and game strategy analysis channels.
Warsaken has partnered with Twitch streams who stream their Blitz games. Watching Warsaken streamers comes with a number of benefits apart from the obvious one of improving your knowledge of game mechanics and deck synergies. Viewers can get the chance to partake in various card or pack draws that are held live on stream. With a bit of luck, this is another way to enrich your Warsaken NFT collection for free. Building bridges with other projects is another aspect that you don't find often in Blockchain Gaming. Warsaken doesn't perceive other blockchain games as competitors but as partners. The idea behind this is to maximize the pie. For that, all dedicated actors need to work together to onboard new players into the blockchain gaming ecosystem. As a means to support their work, the Warsaken team donates each month 400,000 $LOOT tokens to each one of the WAX projects that are in their partners list.
A Hybrid TCG model
Staying true to its origin, and the resonance that TCG have with people of different age groups, Warsaken is also releasing a Tabletop game with physical cards. With that in mind, they organized a Kickstarter fundraising campaign during November - December 2022.
The support for their Kickstarter campaign was overwhelming. The initial fundraising goal of $10,000 was pledged within 2 minutes! The campaign totaled $43,441, 4x more of the initial goal.
The team behind Warsaken, have managed to do something that no other TCG company has done so far, to bridge the digital and analog card gaming communities. The first physical box sets will be delivered to the Kickstarter supporters by July 2023.
The ability to infuse into the blockchain a high quality tabletop card game will become a game changer for the industry. Think of it this way; you gather with your family or your buddies for a tabletop night to play Warsaken. There's bonding in that.
Then, after you play between your group, you log in the app and battle with players from around the world. In the meanwhile, your friends provide you feedback or spectate the game from the same place.
If your family and friends are not blockchain savvy, then you can help them get into blockchain gaming, create a WAX wallet and start playing the digital game. I know I would trust my friends and family to guide me through that process more than some anon on the internet.
