Helping as an exponent of the fact of existing: my volunteering in an animal shelter
Hello my dear friends from Hive and Holos & Lotus, I hope you are very well. Although I don't usually post in this community, I thought it was a great opportunity to stop by here to bring this topic closer, which is precisely what we can do because we are here.
The experience of life and with it the existence itself opens us the possibility to contribute something to the world, and we can do it from simple acts to more complex acts.
Doing so does not imply that we leave money, but that we can provide a service and understand that with an act, we could be having a remarkably positive impact on people.

Ayudar como exponente del hecho de existir: mi voluntariado en una protectora de animales
Hola mis queridos amigos de Hive y de Holos & Lotus, espero que estén muy bien. Aunque no acostumbro a publicar en esta comunidad, me pareció una gran oportunidad pasarme por aquí para acercar esta temática, que es precisamente lo que podemos hacer porque estamos aquí.
La experiencia de vida y con ella la existencia misma nos abre la posibilidad de aportar algo al mundo, y eso lo podemos hacer desde sencillos actos hasta actos más complejos.
Hacerlo, no implica que dejemos dinero, sino que podemos brindar un servicio y comprender que con un acto, podríamos estar repercutiendo de manera notablemente positiva en las personas.
In this context, I will tell you about my experience in an animal shelter called ADAP, where I am volunteering in Catalonia, Spain.
Although the experience is not being entirely satisfactory, because the human group has unhealthy habits that I will talk about later in some other publication, they are doing a great job for the dogs that are here.
I have been trying to balance the good and the bad, looking for the positive aspects and learning from this experience, and there is a reality for what this service is: animals that unfortunately suffer from mistreatment or abandonment are being rescued.
I decided to volunteer here because I had to give up my dog and cat for adoption. This was in order to emigrate. I had no choice and it cost me so much that I even had to work on it in therapy, but I looked for loving homes for both of them.
I wanted to give back to the animal world in some way, so I sought out this experience to volunteer.
En este contexto, les contaré mi experiencia en una protectora de animales llamada ADAP, en donde estoy haciendo un voluntariado en Cataluña, España.
Aunque la experiencia no está siendo del todo satisfactoria, pues el grupo humano tiene hábitos poco saludables de los que luego hablaré en alguna otra publicación, sí que se está haciendo un gran trabajo por los perritos que están aquí.
Llevo unos 5 días intentando poner en la balanza lo bueno y lo malo, buscando los aspectos positivos y el aprendizaje en esta experiencia, y hay una realidad para lo que es concretamente este servicio: se están rescatando animales que lamentablemente sufren de maltrato o abandono.
Decidí hacer el voluntariado aquí porque tuve que dar en adopción a mi perra y a mi gata. Ello con el objetivo de emigrar. No tuve opción y me costó tanto que hasta tuve que trabajarlo en terapia, pero busqué hogares amorosos para ambas.
Quería retribuirle de alguna manera al mundo animal este acto, por lo que busqué esta experiencia para voluntariar.
The protective is located in the middle of the mountain and has 3 main sectors:
The first floor is where the dogs are medicated, there are two dogs per kennel.
The top floor is where the volunteers live and there are other dogs, the ones that take less medication, and two dogs from the shelter (one of them with a special diet).
The third floor is where the volunteers sleep.
In addition there is a room that is a cattery, where there are 4 kittens.
The place in general is a typical mountain shelter, which somehow has been conditioned to turn it into a shelter.
La protectora se encuentra en medio de la montaña y tiene 3 sectores principales:
La planta de abajo que es donde están los perritos medicados, hay dos perros por canil
La planta de arriba que es donde viven los voluntarios y hay otros perros, los que menos medicación toman, y dos perros de la protectora (uno de ellos con dieta especial)
La tercera planta que es la vivienda donde dormimos los voluntarios
Además hay una habitación que es una gatera, en donde hay 4 gatitos.
El lugar en general es un refugio típico de montaña, que de alguna manera se ha acondicionado para convertirlo en protectora.
Puppies are walked twice a day, fed twice a day or three times a day, and medicated at different times, depending on the puppy.
Everything is managed by volunteers, so the group does an impressive job to support this place.
They do not receive any type of subsidy, so it is the donations that provide the money to maintain ADAP, and this is achieved through social networks.
Los perritos se sacan a pasear dos veces por día, se alimentan dos veces por día o tres, y se medican en diferentes horarios, dependiendo el perrito.
Todo es gestionado por voluntarios, por lo que se hace, desde el grupo, un trabajo impresionante para sostener este lugar.
No se recibe ningún tipo de subvención, por lo que son las donaciones las que aportan el dinero para mantener ADAP, y esto se logra a través de las redes sociales.
My task at this place is to work on the networks, specifically on Instagram, I have to record daily videos of the dogs to make reels, upload stories and update the website with the dogs and cats that are up for adoption.
The social media team is made up of three people: Esther, David and me.
In these days I will keep you informed about the progress and different experiences I am living here. All of them, although some are very challenging, offer the possibility to expand and grow, and in the end that is the most important thing.
Mi tarea en este lugar es trabajar en las redes, específicamente en Instagram, tengo que grabar a diario videos de los perros para hacer reels, subir historias y actualizar la página web con los perros y gatos que están en adopción.
El equipo de social media está conformado por tres personas: Esther, David y yo.
En estos días los iré manteniendo informados sobre los avances y diferentes experiencias que estoy viviendo aquí. Tods, aunque algunas muy desafiantes, ofrecen la posibilidad de expandirse y crecer, y al final eso es lo más importante.
