Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to share a few more photos of the icy shoreline from the other day!
Icy Shoreline Monochrome Monday
The winter time is a really fun one in terms of getting some unique photos!
Nature is a pretty fascinating photography object. The way things are conveyed when nature does it's thing is pretty awesome. I know that there are a lot of cool man-made things to take pictures of, but often times for me taking photos of the simple things that nature is doing just by doing what it needs to do, is some of the best subjects for me!
We've had a spout of really cold weather where we live, which is really nice. The whole country has experienced some pretty cold weather which isn't surprising, as it is winter time and these types of things happen. With the deep freeze cold, it means that there is a lot more ice around than there is otherwise! I really like when this happens, because it adds another layer of interesting elements to find and take some photos of.
The river I was walking along the other day is a good sized one, bigger than the one that we go to in a lot of my other photos. This one has a bigger impact on the local weather patterns which makes sense - when the river is freezing cold like it is, the wind blows off it and makes the temperatures that much colder. It's a cascading effect for sure!
I love seeing how nature naturally does these things though. Yes the weather is cold as fuck, and the river just needs to keep moving but as it keeps moving, the edges slowly start to freeze up and then the freeze expands as more water gets stuck in the spot, expanding the frozen patches. I really like when these things start to push up against the shoreline somehow, such as we see in the picture below. The frozen icicles that are jutting upward from the ground are really cool! Combine that with making the pictures black and white, it adds a really unique and interesting element to it.
The shoreline along the river is loaded with all kinds of stuff but how the undulations of the edge of it are really cool to see. How nature does things is pretty wild too, the big chunk of sand that is jutting upwards in the bottom right of the photo is because of how the power of the river ended up pushing the ice onto the shore and that jabbed up the big chunks of the sand. It would be really cool to see these types of things as they are happening, but as we know it likely happened over a number of hours which is also interesting to think about.
I am always amazed at the sheer power and destructive force of nature, but particularly ice. It's a hell of a force of nature that's for sure! People who underestimate it are definitely proven wrong LOL.
