Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to share a few photos of animals I recently happened to snap some pictures of!
Local Animal Models
I've been trying to get some decent pictures of some of the local animals for a while.. but only recently had it work out!
I've been trying, since we got this longer lens, to get some shots of the local animals for a while! I was hoping that in the spring and early summer, I would be able to get some good shots of the birds and stuff. Turns out, I didn't get jack shit hahaha. I am hoping to get some more shots of the locals, but I am happy to get some of these ones here!
There are lots of animals in the area, which is nice. We aren't limited to like 4 or 5 species. We've got thousands, and it's really fascinating when it comes to taking some photos of them. I just have a bit of trouble actually finding the little shits to take some photos of them! I hear them.. but seeing them and then getting a photo is tough.
The birds in the area are really good. We've got lots of them and a few bird feeders around but the challenge has been getting a picture of them before they see you and dart away. Eventually I will get a longer range lens, but that's not in the budget at the moment. In the future, we are likely going to give that a try though!
The squirrels are thankfully quite prevalent though, and are all over the place. Some mornings, such as on this walk, they are pretty loud and violent. They attack each other in the trees and this one here was pissed off, chattering and flicking his tail all over the place. It made it easy to find the fella, but a little tricky moving into the right spot for a photo.
For me the real gem was the chance to get some photos of the bald eagles! The bald eagles have been in the area for a few years now and it's been awesome. There are two, seemingly male and female. I can't tell you which one is which because I don't get to see them that often, and I don't know enough about them.. but their call in the air is unmistakable! I originally thought it was a hawk, but it turns out those are eagles which is wonderful!
I was getting a few photos of the damn squirrels when all of a sudden I heard the eagles, and BAM they landed on a tree near! I was freaking out, because I had seen them but never actually got a picture of them! Fucking SCORE :D I got a few! They were a little tricky to get a decent shot, but this one is certainly my best. I would say they were about 100 feet in front of me, which doesn't seem that long but when you are limited in your lens capacity, and you want to zoom in as close as possible, it felt like it was way too far haha.
This one is a little harder to see, but the eagles are on either side of the tree in the middle. There is one to the left and to the right, you can see their white heads and yellow talons. I was so stoked to get these photos! I haven't actually gotten one before, so this was sweet. I think earlier this year they had babies but it seems they flew off for their own adventure, or they may have died or something. I have heard and seen these two adults in the area, so hopefully the kiddos just matured and peaced out.
What about you, do you like to take photos of the local wildlife? Have you gotten any rare ones? Let me know in the comments!
