I started to take photos thanks to the recommendation of a psychologist because the stress at work was killing me back in 2004... What started as a "therapeutic hobby" quickly became a way of living... Since then "photography and I are still living an idyll" whose end will surely end the day my body will be put in a grave (in case my husband and sons decide not to cremate me to save some money, which doesn't matter, because I'll be dead)...
Comencé a hacer fotos gracias a la recomendación de un psicólogo, pues el stress laboral me estaba matando allá por 2004... Aquello que comenzó como una "afición terapéutica" rápidamente se convirtió en una manera de vivir... Desde entonces "la fotografía y yo seguimos viviendo un idilio" cuyo final seguramente terminará el día que mi cuerpo sea puesto una fosa (en caso de que mis hijos y mi esposa decidan no cremarme para ahorrarse algún dinero, lo cual no importa, pues estaré muerto)...

The truth is that after several years of taking photographs mostly in nature, landscapes, rivers, insects, birds, reptiles, mammals, reptiles and the like, I have been able to find a new way of photographing... One day I decided to go out in the street with my camera and then everything changed... The streets became my "photographic hunting ground" and since then everything has been a constant evolution in this type of photography...
Lo cierto es que después de varios años haciendo fotografías en su mayor parte en la naturaleza, paisajes, ríos, insectos, aves, reptiles mamíferos y afines... Un día decidí salir a la calle con mi cámara y entonces todo cambió... Las calles se volvieron mi "coto de caza fotográfico" y desde entonces todo ha sido un constante evolucionar en este tipo de fotografía...

I have to confess that when I decided to take pictures as a therapy to cope with my stress at work (and to avoid strangling some of my office mates) I also started reading and watching videos on photographic theory, I even attended a couple of seminars on photography (in both cases I stayed less than 30 minutes there, so I gave up).... So one fine day I put my camera in manual mode and decided to learn about photography as I have learned many things in my life... On the spur of the moment and immersed in a delicious empirical sea!!!.... After all, that has served me well in my career as a computer scientist, my marriage (I'm still here after 35 years), my religious convictions (very much in line with the "God of Espinoza" as the good A. Einstein), growing up with a mild undiagnosed Asperger's and obviously it served me well with photography!...
Tengo que confesar que cuando me decidí a hacer fotos como terapia y así poder sobrellevar mi stress en el trabajo (y evitar estrangular a algunos de mis compañeros de oficina) también comencé a leer y ver vídeos de teoría fotográfica, inclusive asistí a un par de seminarios sobre fotografía (en ambos casos permanecí menos de 30 minutos allí, así que desistí)... Así que un buen día puse mi cámara en modo manual y decidí aprender de fotografía tal como he aprendido mucas cosas en ni vida ¡A los porrazos y sumido en un delicioso mar empírico!!!... Después de todo, eso me ha servido para mi carrera como informático, mi matrimonio (sigo aquí después de 35 años), mis convicciones religiosas (muy acordes con el "Dios de Espinoza" como el buen A. Einstein), crecer con un leve Asperger no diagnosticado y ¡Obviamente me sirvió con la fotografía!...

So one day I left behind many learned concepts and started to photograph on the streets "by instinct".... And that's what I still do... And since a few years ago I do more and more street portraits (doing them in a studio or in a less "anarchic" place is something that I don't really like to do)... I have to take into account that I started taking pictures so I wouldn't end up chasing my boss with a bat in the corridors of a company (among other ideas that crossed my mind)... So, it seems to me, it's quite normal that taking street portraits is something that I really enjoy...
Así que un día dejé atrás muchos conceptos aprendidos y comencé a fotografiar en las calles "por instinto"... Y eso es lo que sigo haciendo... Y desde hace pocos años atrás hago cada vez más retratos callejeros (hacerlos en un estudio o en un lugar menos "anárquico" es algo que en realidad no me gusta hacer)... ¡Tengo que tomar en cuenta que comencé a hacer fotos para no terminar persiguiendo a mi jefe con un bate en los pasillos de una empresa (entre otras ideas que llegaron a pasar por mi cabeza)... Entonces, me parece, que es muy normal que hacer retratos callejeros sea algo que me agrade muchísimo...

For me making street portraits is a wonderful exercise of humanity... To do them I have to be in contact with the person, I have to get involved, I have to prevent them from adopting an unnatural posture and if possible shoot without warning... And I fucking love doing that!.... And the best thing is that people seem to like it... This has been a wonderful experience for me, to the point that many people here already shout out to "Mr. Camera Crazy" (that's me, according to my countrymen) and ask to take a picture... I'm beginning to understand street photographers in general and how they developed that kind of passion which is often impossible to stop...
Para mi hacer retratos callejeros es un ejercicio de humanidad maravilloso... Para hacerlos tengo que estar en contacto con la persona, tengo que implicarme, tengo que evitar que adopte una postura poco natural y si es posible disparar sin avisar... ¡Y amo hacer eso carajo!... Y lo mejor de todo es que a la gente parece gustarle... Esto ha sido una experiencia maravillosa para mi, hasta el punto que muchos aquí ya suelen gritar al "Señor Loco de la cámara" (ese soy yo, según mis paisanos) y pedir que les hagan una foto... Estoy comenzando a entender a los fotógrafos callejeros en general y como es que desarrollaban ese tipo de pasión la cual suele ser imposible de soltar...

The street portrait filled me with friends that I did not have before, the street portrait became a daily exorcism, where my isolation and my unpredictable character tend to dissolve for many hours, the street portrait revealed that other part of my personality to me , more frank, more easygoing, less cautious and much more empathetic... So this, in summary, is something good and it is born in a very simple way: "With a camera in my hand and a handful of streets that have seen me since I was a child"... I have to consider myself lucky, certainly "very" lucky.
El retrato de calle me llenó de amigos que antes no tenía, el retrato de calle se convirtió en un exorcismo cotidiano, en donde mi aislamiento y mi impredecible carácter suelen disolverse durante muchas horas, el retrato de calle me reveló esa otra parte de mi personalidad, más franca, más campechana, menos cauta y mucho más empática... Así que esto, en resumen, es algo bueno y nace de una manera muy simple: "Con una cámara en mi mano y un puñado de calles que me han visto desde niño"... Tengo que considerarme afortunado, ciertamente "muy" afortunado.
